CITY OF KENT- CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES
The City of Kent Civil Service Commission met for the regularly scheduled meeting
on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at 5:30 p.m. in Chambers West for the regular
meeting. The following information was discussed:
Members Present: Callius Zaratkiewicz
Pauline Thomas
Jeff Piecewicz
Others Present: Ofr. Rigoberto Gonzalez, others present.
Chair Zaratkiewicz asked those present to review the ‘Accept Into Record’ items 1-17
under New Business. He then called the meeting to order at 5:36 p.m. after giving
the audience time to review said items.

A. Accept Into Record
1. Approval of the Minutes from the April 22, 2015 Civil Service Commission
meeting.
Commissioner Piecewicz made a motion to accept into record the minutes from the
April 22, 2015 Civil Service Commission meeting. Motion was moved and seconded;
motion passed.
IV. NEW BUSINESS:
A. Accept into Record
1. Email dated December 20, 2014 from Corrections Officer Esteban Aguilar
announcing his retirement and Commander McCuistion’s response to his
retirement.
2. Letter dated February 9, 2015 from Chief Thomas to Corey Chapman
congratulating him on being hired as a Probationary Police Recruit Officer
effective May 18, 2015.
3. Memo dated April 1, 2015 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission that
Cmdr. Todd Durham will be assigned as Acting Assistant Chief from April 20-
24, 2015.
4. Memo dated April 1, 2015 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission that
Cmdr. Mike O’Reilly will be assigned as Acting Assistant Chief from April 27-
May 1, 2015.
5. Memo dated April 17, 2015 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission that
Ofr. Brian Lewis will be assigned as Acting Sergeant from April 17-24, 2015.

6. Letters dated April 17, 2015 from Chief Examiner Winecka to Scott Lowe,
Charles Baer, Chelsea Grimm, Phillip White, Jared Spence, and Evan Lee
notifying them that their names has been removed from the Continuous
Testing Eligibility List for Entry Level Police Officer effective April 17, 2015.
7. Letter dated April 22, 2015 from Chief Thomas to Joshua Jones notifying him
that he will have successfully completed the probationary period for the
position of Accounting Services Assistant effective May 1, 2015.
8. Letter dated April 23, 2015 from Chief Thomas to Kenneth Holifield
congratulating him on being hired as a Probationary Lateral Corrections Officer
effective May 1, 2015.
9. Letter dated April 30, 2015 from Chief Thomas to Sean Goforth congratulating
him on being hired as a Probationary Police Recruit Officer effective May 18,
2015.
10. Letter dated May 1, 2015 from Chief Examiner Winecka to James Smith
notifying him that his name has been removed from the Continuous Testing
Eligibility List for Lateral/Experienced Police Officer effective May 1, 2015.
11. Memo and subsequent letter dated May 1, 2015 notifying Sgt. Robert Hollis
that he successfully completed the probationary period for the rank of Police
Sergeant and is appointed to regular employment status effective May 1,
2015.
12. Letter dated May 4, 2015 from Chief Examiner Winecka to Joseph Wisniewski
notifying him that his name has been removed from the Continuous Testing
Eligibility List for Entry Level Police Officer effective May 4, 2015.
13. Memo dated May 6, 2015 from Chief Thomas accepting the retirement of Det.
Rodger Kellams effective May 29, 2015.
14. Memo dated May 6, 2015 from Chief Thomas accepting the retirement of
Corrections Officer Esteban Aguilar effective June 14, 2015.
15. Memo dated May 6, 2015 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission that
A/C Derek Kammerzell will be assigned as Acting Chief from May 7-8, 2015.
16. Memo dated May 13, 2015 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission that
A/C Derek Kammerzell will be assigned as Acting Chief from May 18-20, 2015.
17. Memo dated May 15, 2015 from Chief Thomas notifying the Commission that
Cmdr. Eric Hemmen will be assigned as Acting Assistant Chief from May 15-
21, 2015.
There being no questions on items one through seventeen, Chair Zaratkiewicz made
a motion to accept into record said items. Motion was moved and seconded; motion
passed.
B. Approve into Record:
1. Continuous Testing Eligibility list for the position of Lateral/ Experienced Police
Officer that was established on May 1, 2015.
2. Continuous Testing Eligibility list for the position of Entry Level Police Officer
that was established on May 5, 2015.
3. Eligibility List for the position of Police Records Supervisor that was
established on May 8, 2015.

There being no questions on items one through three, Chair Zaratkiewicz made a
motion to approve into record the items as listed. Motion was moved and seconded;
motion passed.
C. Action Items for Discussion:
There were no action items for discussion.
There being no further business, Commissioner Piecewicz made a motion to adjourn.
Motion was moved and seconded and the meeting adjourned at 5:40 PM. The next
meeting of the Civil Service Commission will take place on Wednesday, June 24,
2015 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
