SUMMARY: We seek your approval to use 6% of 2020 Lodging Tax revenues to cover City administrative costs. State law allows the use of LTAC funds for this purpose given the staff time needed to administer committee activities, as well as manage the contracting and accounting process with any grant recipients. In 2014, the committee approved a 10K allocation for this purpose, and it has continued in subsequent years. While this is a long-time practice, like previous automatic allocations we’ve reversed, a 6% allocation of funds from the year in which they are collected, acknowledges that lower revenue years will also likely mean fewer grants to administer, while the reverse will be true in higher revenue years. BUDGET IMPACT: 6% of 2020 LTAC revenues added to the Economic Development Division Budget for 2020. Given the expected decrease in revenue due to Covid-19, this amount is estimated to be between $7,000-10,000.
