HomeMy WebLinkAbout1805Resolution No. 1805 (Amending or Repealing Resolutions) CFN = 118-Parks, Recreation & Human Services Passed -4/7/2009 Collaboration with the Federal Way School District Re: Sunnycrest Elementary RESOLUTION NO. !8: 06 A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Kent, Washington, ev1denc1ng the City's mtent to contmue collaboration efforts w1th the Federal Way School District regard1ng the City's development of West Hill Park, and the Federal Way School District's rebuilding and refurb1sh1ng efforts at Sunnycrest Elementary. RECITALS A. The Federal Way School D1stnct and the City of Kent own adJOining parcels of real property on the West Hill of Kent. The City owns property known as West Hill Park located at Military Road and S. 244th, which 1t intends to develop into a neighborhood park, and the Federal Way School District owns property located at 24629 -42nd Avenue South, upon which 1t has constructed Sunnycrest Elementary School. B. During the November 2006 General and Special Election, the Federal Way School District adopted Propos1t1on No. 1, wh1ch authorized general obligation bonds for the rebuilding and refurb1shmg of Sunnycrest Elementary, and other schools w1th1n the school district. Because the City's future neighborhood park and Sunnycrest Elementary are adjacent to one another, Kent Parks, Recreation, and Community Serv1ces and the Federal Way School District have expressed their mutual desire to 1 Collaboration with the Federal Way School District Re: Sunnycrest Elementary coordinate their projects in an effort to more effectively utilize scarce resources. Through th1s resolution, the Kent City Council expresses it desire to continue to work collaborat1vely w1th the Federal Way School District as each agency proceeds with 1ts development proJeCt. NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: RESOLUTION SECTION 1. -Project Coordination. By its adoption of this resolution, the Kent City Counc1l expresses its mtent to continue collaboration with the Federal Way School District on the City's development of West Hill Park, and the school district's rebuilding and refurbishing efforts at Sunnycrest Elementary. As development plans begm to emerge, the City and the school distnct w1ll work toward a formal agreement for council cons1derat1on that more clearly defines each agency's role, commitment, and responsibilities. SECTION 2. -Severability. If any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence, clause or phrase of th1s resolution is declared unconstitutional or invalid for any reason, such decis1on shall not affect the validity of the remaming portions of th1s resolution. SECTION 3. -Ratification. Any act consistent with the authority and prior to the effective date of th1s resolut1on is hereby ratified and affirmed.
