RESOLUTION NO. 11 /]__,
A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City
of Kent, Washmgton, supportmg the formatiOn of a Valley
Cities' Association.
RECITALS
A. For a number ofyears, there has been greater mteractwn between the
cities of Fife, Puyallup, Sumner, Auburn, Algona, Pacific, Kent, Renton, and Tukw1la,
relative to a vanety of Issues with which they have common or very similar positions.
B In order to be more effective in dealing with the issues that these cities
have in common, It would be advantageous for them to coordmate their efforts,
combme resources, and umte m collective responses.
C. In addition to the JOmt efforts of the cities to address common problems,
the gathering of these JUriSdictions mto a common umt would present a more powerful
presence m terms of achievmg desired outcomes for their benefit regwnally and across
the state.
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT,
WASHINGTON, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

RESOLUTION
SECTION 1. -Authorzzatzon. The Mayor IS hereby authorized to work with the
mayors, managers, admmistrators, and other executive staff of the Cities of Fife,
Puyallup, Sumner, Algona, Pac1fic, Auburn, Renton, and Tukwila to form a "Valley
Clties Associatton," to identify rules of procedure, meetmg schedules, and other matters
consistent with their desue to work together for their common good
SECTION 2. -Severabilztv. If any section, subsection, paragraph, sentence,
clause or phrase of this resolution IS declared unconstitutiOnal or mvahd for any
reason, such decislOn shall not affect the vahdity of the remammg portwns of this
resolution.
SECTION 3. -Ratification. Any act consistent with the authority and prior to
the effective date of this resolution is hereby ratified and affirmed
SECTION 4. -Effective Date This resolutwn shall take effect and be in force
immediately upon Its passage.
PASSED at a regular open public meeting by the City Council ofthe City of
Kent, Washmgton, tills / rf day of October, 2005.
