A RESOLUTION of the c1ty council of the c1ty of
Kent, Washmgton, supportmg a petition to locate a Trader
Joe's specmlty grocery store m downtown Kent
WHEREAS, the Kent Downtown Partnership IS c1rculatmg a petition to
present to Trader Joe's, which conveys the mterest of those workmg and hvmg m Kent of
their desire to see a Trader Joe's specmlty grocery store located m the city of Kent, and
WHEREAS, over 1,000 signatures have been obtamed on the petition, and
WHEREAS, an annual survey of 400 randomly selected Kent residents
completed on May 1, 2003, md1cated that Trader Joe's IS the number one chmce for the
type of grocery store citizens would hke to see m downtown Kent, and
WHEREAS, the demographics of the downtown Kent trade area would
support a Trader Joe's W1thm a three (3) mile radms of downtown hve 78,000 people
with an average household mcome of $79,500 In addition, over 62,000 people work
w1thm three (3) miles of downtown, and
WHEREAS, the city's Downtown StrategiC Actwn Plan encourages
downtown growth and redevelopment Furthermore, the city's Strategic Plan mcludes
five key goals for the c1ty, mcludmg creatiOn of a VIbrant downtown that IS a community
focal pomt and the area's transportatiOn hub, and
WHEREAS, the city council supports the petitiOn to establish and locate a
Trader Joe's specialty grocery store m downtown Kent, NOW, THEREFORE,

THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS
SECTION 1. -Acceptance of Petztzon. The City of Kent, Washmgton,
supports the petitiOn to establish and locate a Trader Joe's specialty grocery store m
downtown Kent
SECTION 2. -Severabzhty If any sectiOn, subsectiOn, paragraph,
sentence, clause, or phrase of this resolutiOn IS declared unconstitl!twnal or mvalid for
any reason, such decisiOn shall not affect the validity of the remammg portiOns of this
resolutiOn
SECTION 3. -Ratzficatwn Any act consistent with the authonty and
pnor to the effective date of this resolutiOn IS hereby ratified and affirmed
SECTION 4. -Ef!ectzve Date This resolutiOn shall take effect and be m
force Immediately upon Its passage
