I b ) i A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Kent, Washmgton, amendmg ResolutiOn No 1049, which established a pohcy and procedure for the nammg of City parks and public facilities WHEREAS, on February 19, 1985, the City adopted ResolutiOn No 1049, which enacted a policy and procedure regardmg the nammg of parks and pubhc facilities, and WHEREAS, the City now finds It necessary to update the ongmal pohcy and procedure to further develop the circumstances under which It would be appropnate to name a park, pubhc facility, or feature withm a park after a hvmg person, NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS SECTION 1. -Amendment SectiOn 4 0 of Resolution No 1049, entitled "Procedure," IS hereby amended to read as follows 4 0 PROCEDURE 4 1 SuggestiOns for names shall be solicited from organizations, mdividuals and the media, and all suggestiOns, sohc1ted or not, shall be acknowledged and recorded for consideratiOn by the C1ty Naming of Park Factltltes- Updatmg Poltcy and Procedure 4 2 The legtslative authonty, followmg such review and public hearmgs by the Parks Committee as deemed appropnate, shall desigtiate names for park, recreatiOn and other public facilities 4 3 There shall be a time lapse of at least six months between receipt of a name proposal and the final recommendatiOn on Its adoptiOn m cases where the person IS livmg, or m cases where wlneh the death of the person or the event to be commemorated took place w1thm the past year 4 3 I The SIX month lapse penod may be waived by the City when a park, pubhc facility, or a feature w1thm a park IS to be named after a living person when an unusually outstandmg public service would so JUStify, In those mstances, the Mayor, Council President. Parks Committee Chairperson, and Parks Director may unanimously designate the name of such park, public facility, or a feature Withm a park. The park name so designated w1ll be announced at the park or public facility ded1catwn 4 4 Facilities shall be Identified by the established name, and SigtiS shall be mamtamed as a source of Identity and CIVIC pnde.
