A RESOLUTION of the C1ty Council of the C1ty
of Kent, Washmgton, supportmg a Kmg County charter
amendment to reduce the size of the Kmg County Council
from thirteen (13) to mne (9) members
WHEREAS, m 1992, Kmg County and Metro Governments merged
pursuant to a court order, and
WHEREAS, pnor to 1992, Kmg County's Council was composed ofmne
(9) counc1lmembers; and
WHEREAS, after the 1992 Kmg County and Metro merger, the newly
formed Kmg County government charter created a thirteen (13) member council, and
WHEREAS, Kmg County Councihnembers Kent Pullen and David Irons
have mtroduced a proposed charter anJendment that would reduce the size of the Kmg
County Council from thirteen (13) to mne (9) members, and
WHEREAS, It IS the opm10n of the Kent City Council that voters prefer
smaller, more efficient government m order to mcrease efficiency and to reduce taxpayer
costs, and
WHEREAS, m order to approve this charter amendment, both the Kmg
County Council and the voters ofKmg County must approve the charter proposal, and

WHEREAS, the City Council finds that It IS appropnate to support the
Kmg County charter amendment proposed by Counc1lmembers Pullen and Irons, NOW
THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS
SECTION 1. -Support The C1ty Council for the C1ty of Kent, by this
resolutiOn, supports the Kmg County charter amendment mtroduced by Kmg County
Councilmembers Kent Pullen and David Irons to reduce the size of the Kmg County
Council from 13 to 9 members
SECTION 2. -Effective Date This resolutiOn shall take effect and be m
force !lTimediately upon Its passage.
