HomeMy WebLinkAbout622RESOLunON NO. fz;;< ;J._ A RESOLtTrtON APPROVING FOR THE CITY OF KENT A PROGRAM AUTHORIZING THE LEASING BY THE HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE COUNTY OF KING OF PRIVATELY OWNED DWELLINGS FOR THE USE OF LOW INCOME SENIOR CITIZENS PURSUANT TO SECTION 23 OF THE UNITED STATES HOUSING ACT AS AMENDED IN 1965 WHEREAS, The City of Kent is interested in authorizing low rent housing through private enterprise for senior citizens of low income in the City, and WHEREAS, a 1965 amendment to Section 23 of the United States Housing Act of 1937 makes financial assistance available to local housing authorities to lease private,ly owned dwellings for use of low income senior citizens, and WHEREAS, the City of Kent wishes to have such financial assistance for use in the City to alleviate the need for suitable housing for senior citizens of low income, and WHEREAS, the Housing Authority of the County of King is the appropriate local agency to apply for such financial assistance and use the same in connection with a program for leasing privately owned dwellings for the use of senior citizens of low income. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Kent that: 1. The leasing program authorized by Section 23 of the United States Housing Act of 1937 as amended in 1965 is hereby approved for the City of Kent. 2. The Housing Authority of the County of King is the appropriate local public agency to administer in the City of Kent, Washington, the leasing program contemplated by the aforementioned act. 3. Applicants residing within the corporate limits of Kent will be entitled to receive first priority as the units of this specific project ........ ---..,_ ·- which anticipates construction of 120 units, become available for utilization. 4. The Housing Authority of the County of King is hereby authorized and requested to apply for and use such financial assistance as may be available under the aforementioned leasing program and as may be required to alleviate the shortage of suitable housing in the City of Kent for senior citizens of low income. 5.
