A RESOLUTION of the City Council of
the City of Kent, Washington, providing for
review by the Building Official of the City
of Kent of all building, grading and exca-
vation and fill permits to assure compliance
with the requirements of the National Flood
Insurance Program relative to mud slide hazards
and mud slide damage.
WHEREAS, the City of Kent has adopted and is enforcing
the Uniform Building Code, 1973 Edition, and
WHEREAS, Section 301 (a) of the aforesaid prohibits
any person, firm, or corporation from erecting, constructing,
enlarging, altering, repairing, improving, moving or demolishing
any building or structure without first obtaining a separate
building permit for each building or structure from the Building
Official, and
WHEREAS, the Building Official must examine all plans
and specifications for the proposed construction when application
is made to him for a building permit.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Kent, Washington, as follows:
Section 1. That the Building Official shall require
the issuance of a permit for any excavation, grading, fill, or
construction in the community; and
Section 2. That the Building Official shall require
review of each permit application to determine whether the pro-
posed site and improvements will be reasonably safe from mud-
slides. If a proposed site and improvements are in a location

that may have mudslide hazards, a further review must be made
by persons qualified in geology and soils engineering; and the
proposed new construction, substantial improvement, or grading
must (1) be adequately protected against mudslide damage and
(2) not aggravate the existing hazard.
