HomeMy WebLinkAbout1186RESOLUTION NC. ;/8~ A RESOLUTION cf the City Council of the City of Kent, washington, requesting King County to fund the study and construction of a portion of the South 272nd/277th Corridor. WHEREAS, the Cities of Kent and Auburn, King County, and the Washington State Departrrent of Transportation (WSDOT) have studied the need fer and feasibility of an east-to-west read Corridor Project at South 272nd/277th Street to relieve unacce~table levels cf traffic congestion related to growth in the Green River Valley Transportation Area and Soos Creek Plateau: and WHEREAS, the City has adoptee the Green River Valley Transportation Action Plan which further identifies the need to plan, design, finance, and aevelor a South 272nc/277th Street Corridor Project within the Cities of Kent and Auburn and King County: and WHEREAS, the Kent City Council authorized the Mayor to execute a Memorandurr of Understanding with King County for the funding of a study to identify ccrricor right-of-way alternatives and impacts for the full Corridor Project and the portion from the East Eank of the Green River tc State Route 516 (Eenson Highway/104th Ave. SE), including compliance with the State Environrrental Policy Act: and WHEREAS, a four-lane arterial route through the identified Corridor Project is needed irrrrediately to reduce congestion within the City's existing arterials and intersections, most of which operate a Level of Service "F": and WHEREAS, King County continues to allow developrrent in unincorporated King County which directly and indirectly irrpacts the City's arterials and intersections which are now incapable of further capacity expansions to rriti9ate the adverse irrpacts of such developments: NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council requests that the King County Council promptly authorize and appropriate sufficient funds for the study of right-of-way alignrrents anc irrpacts fer the Scuth 272nd/277th Street Corridor Project consistent with the Green River Valley Transportation Acticn Plan, the King County Comprehensive Transportation Plan, and the policies of the City of Kent. Section 2. The City Council also requests that the King County Council authorize ana appropriate sufficient funds for construction of a four-lane South 272nc/277th Street corridor frorr East Valley Highway to 108th, consistent with the corridor project planned ty the City of Kent.
