HomeMy WebLinkAbout1157RESOLUTION NO. 1/~17 A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Kent, Washington, supporting an application to obtain funding from the 1989 Washington Centennial Commission to restore the Burlington Northern Railway Depot in downtown Kent. WHEREAS, on May 20, 1974 the City Council adopted the Central Business District Plan that recognizes the importance of the Burlington Northern Depot as both a historic and functional facility in the future development of the downtown; and WHEREAS, the Kent Downtown Association, through numerous planning efforts, has recognized the historical value and potential for economic development from the restoration of the depot; and WHEREAS, the Mayor's Downtown Revitalization Task Force in its report of June, 1986 recommended historic restoration as a means to provide development incentives; and WHEREAS, the City of Kent has received $7,000 through the Housing and Community Development Block Grant Program to develop design alternatives for interior restoration of the depot in 1988; and WHEREAS, funding to support the Centennial project is available from the 1989 Washington Centennial Commission; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City of Kent shall apply to the 1989 Washington Centennial Commission, Local Project Grants, for $25,000 to complete restoration of the Burlington Northern Depot.
