A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the
City of Kent, washington, establishing the Kent
Centennial Committee.
WHEREAS, the State of washington will celebrate its lOOth
Birthday in the year 1989; and
WHEREAS, the legislature has created the washington
Centennial Commission and charged the Commission with the
development of a plan for the Centennial celebration which
represents contributions of all peoples and cultures to Washington
State history; and
WHEREAS, the Centennial Commission's report calls for the
formation of local citizen advisory committees to assist in local
planning for Centennial projects and programs; and
WHEREAS, the City of Kent desires to observe the
Centennial celebration and participate in the projects and events
associated therewith; and
WHEREAS, the City of Kent will celebrate its lOOth
Birthday in the year 1990; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to observe its own Centennial
celebration and establish projects and events associated
therewith; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. There is established a Kent Centennial
Committee whose charge is to prepare and recommend a plan on local
celebration and projects related to the State's Centennial
celebration that may be proper for Kent's participation and
sponsorship.
Section 2. The Centennial Committee shall review and
recommend potential Centennial projects that may be appropriate
for submission to the State's Centennial Commission for possible
funding.
Section 3. The Centennial Committee recommend local
plans and projects for the celebration of Kent's Centennial to be
coordinated with and be in addition to the State's Centennial
celebration.
Section 4. Members of the Kent Centennial Committee
shall be appointed and removed at the discietion of the Mayor and
shall consist of five members.
Section 5. The Centennial Committee shall complete its
activities by January 1, 1990 and disband by that date.
