(tJ3/ A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of Kent, Washington relating to traffic and pedestrian safety; directing the installation of a flashing warning light at the crosswalk on Kent-Kangley Road at lllth Avenue SE. WHEREAS, a number of students, within and without the City of Kent, live north of Kent-Kangley Road and attend Sequoia Junior High School; and WHEREAS, Kent School District does not provide transportation to many such students and the students are thereby required to cross Kent-Kangley Road to attend Sequoia Junior High School; and WHEREAS, as a result of the number of students crossing Kent-Kangley Road at lllth Avenue SE, additional traffic safety measures are warranted; and WHEREAS, the City of Kent has not budgeted for such expenses or have sufficient funds to provide extensive improvements at the crossing; and WHEREAS, unexpended and unencumbered funds are available to provide a flashing warning light at the crosswalk of Kent-Kangley Road at lllth Avenue SE; NOW THEREFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON DOES RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The Department of Public Works is directed to install a flashing warning light at the crosswalk at Kent-Kangley Road at lllth Avenue SE. The Department is authorized to use unexpended and unencumbered funds in its budget for the purpose of such improvement. Section 2. The Department of Public Works is authorized to continue discussions with the Kent School District concerning further improvements of the crosswalk of Kent-Kangley Road at lllth Avenue SE in order to provide further assistance to the students attending Sequoia Junior High School.
