HomeMy WebLinkAbout934.. , /_/ (J CITY or KENT RESOLUTION ::o. 931: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF KENT, ADOPTING ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS PERTAINING TO THE LIFE LINE SEWERAGE RATES. WHEREAS, because of increased costs of living there is a need to relieve certain individuals from the effect of the City•s Sewerage Utility Sewer service charge; and WHEREAS, City Ordinance No. 2299 expressly provides for a reduced rate (life line rate) to eligible individuals; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Kent desires to assist eligible individuals who suffer severely from increased costs of living; now therefore, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON DO HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: Life Line Sewerage Rate is available only to citizens living within the City limits subject to the followinq conditions: (1) The sewerage account shall be in the name of the individual owner or renter certifying eligibility for the life line rate. / (2) That individual shall be or exceed 62 years of age at the time of filing or is permanently and totally disabled. (3) For a single person living alone, the adjusted gross personal income as determined by the Internal Revenue Service•s individual income tax form 1040 or l040A for the previous year did not exceed $4,080 ($5,500 if 65 or over). (4) For a household of two or more individuals, the adjusted gross personal income for all individuals living in the household as determined by the Internal Revenue Service•s individual income tax form 1040 or 1040A for the previous year did not exceed $6,120 ($8,250 if 65 or over). (5) Only one sewerage charge reduction will be given for each applicant and for each property served. (6) Character of Service: Service shall be for single family residential purposes only. (7) Application: Individuals must apply at City Hall annually. The application will require information on age of the applicant and household ·income, and must be notarized. (8) Determination of eligibility shall be made by the Finance Director based upon the information given in the annual application of the eligible customer. (9) Period of validity of the application: Upon approval of the application, the household will receive the reduced rate beginning the first day of the month following the date of the application through April 30 of the following year. Where differences of opinion exist regarding this resolution, the City Council shall make the final determination.
