A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the City of
Kent, Washington, relating to the RTA Station site for
downtown Kent and the Kent Downtown Strategic Action
Plan.
WHEREAS, on September 16, 1997, the Kent City Council, by motion,
authorized a letter to be sent to the R T A urging that two rail station locations be examined
during the environmental analysis process to include a north and south site location in
downtown Kent; and
WHEREAS, from September 1997 through January 1998 the RT A conducted
its environmental analysis on the Commuter Rail Segment which analysis studied both a
north and south site location in Kent; and
WHEREAS, on January 20, 1998, the Kent City Council, by motion,
authorized the Mayor to send a letter to the RT A designating the South Station site as the
preferred site for the Kent station; and
WHEREAS, on January 21, 1998, Mayor Jim White wrote a letter to the RTA
conveying the City Council's preference of a South Station site; and
WHEREAS, on February 3, 1998, the Kent City Council, by motion,
authorized a letter to be sent to the RTA reaffirming the City Council's preference for a South

Station site and the reasons for this preference; and
WHEREAS, the Kent City Council, through its Planning Committee, has
been studying a Strategic Action Plan for downtown Kent since June of 1997; and
WHEREAS, during the Planning Committee's deliberations, most of the
public testimony heard regarding the RT A Station site location has favored a South Station
site; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON, DOES
HEREBY RESOL YES AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: The City Council hereby reaffirms its preference for the
currently designated South Station site for the R T A station in Kent; and
SECTION 2: At this time, the City Council declares its intention to include
the South Station site in its Kent Downtown Strategic Action Plan during its deliberation and
final adoption.
