A RESOLUTION of the City Council of the
City of Kent, Washington, relating to its
priority Target Issues and initiating studies
regarding a transit system and a comprehensive
sidewalk plan for the City of Kent.
WHEREAS, the city of Kent has established growth
management as an urgent priority within its Target Issues, which
includes transportation studies for identifying and implementing
Growth Management Act policies; and
WHEREAS, the City of Kent has established as a top
priority the mobility of people through better transportation
systems and improved traffic flow in its Target Issues; and
WHEREAS, the City of Kent is currently developing
infrastructure systems for the downtown core area which include
pedestrian facilities such as sidewalks, however, the City Council
deems it desirable to extend comprehensive planning for sidewalks
city-wide; and
WHEREAS, it is deemed desirable by the City Council to
include as part of its transportation studies under Growth
Management, a study of a city-wide transit system and of pedestrian
traffic flow; NOW, THEREFORE,
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF KENT, WASHINGTON DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the City Council expands upon and
further defines its desires with respect to its urgent priority,
"Growth Management", and its top priority, "the mobility of people
through better transportation systems", by identifying the
following areas for consideration and study.
A. The feasibility of establishing a city transit
system with links to key destination points, such as METRO park n'
ride, proposed rail commuter stations and key commercial areas
throughout the City.
B. Developing and implementing a comprehensive city-
wide sidewalk plan in order to more effectively and safely enhance
pedestrian mobility within the City.
Section 2. That the Public Works Department is hereby
directed to submit, to the Public Works Committee for its
consideration, a proposal for initiating studies on the feasibility
of establishing a transit system and developing a comprehensive
sidewalk plan for the City of Kent.
