HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Civil Services Commission - 06/10/1975 June 10, 1973 The regular meeting of the Civil Service Commission was held on June 10, 1975. Present were Warren Bell , Hal Cline, Ken Yahn, Officer Haysom, Deputy Chief FreeloVe and Chief McQuery. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved. A letter was read from Lawrence Loveless officially resigning from the Police Department, effective May 31 , 1975, A letter was read from the Selection Consulting Center adknowledging the participation of the police department in the Selection Standards project. A letter of resignation was received from Firefighter Glen Tibbs effective June 20, 1975. A motion was made and seconded to direct the secretary and chief examiner to proceed with an entrance police clerk examination. Motion carried. The proposed qualifications for the position of Firefighter Mechanic were discussed and a motion was made and seconded to refer them back to the fire department administration for revision. Motion carried. The Rules and Regulations were the next order of business. A paragraph will be added to page 33 to include the date of adoption and signatutes of the commission members and the secretary and chief examiner. A motion was made and seconded to approve a twelve month probation period for all positions effective June 10, 1975. This will not apply to any person in a probationary position prior to that date. Motion carried. In all sections dealing with promotional positions except Chief, the subsection on service records will be changed to read; Applicant' s personnel file will be scored only in case of a tie on the final examination grade. A motion was made by Hal Cline to change Rule VIII, Section 9 to read; Must have served satisfactorily as an Assistant Chief with the Kent Fire Department for a period of 24 months. Motion died for lack of a second. The rest of the rules were discussed. Chief Foster arrived at this time. Mr. Cline asked to reopen the subject of Rule VIII, Section.9. After discussion, it will stay the way it is for the present. A motion was made and seconded to adopt the Rules and Regulations as amended and corrected, effective June 10, 1975. Motion carried.
