Arts Commission Minutes
Commissioners: Chair Countess Stekovic, Vice Chair Ryan Olmsted, Treasurer Gerard Philpotts,

Item Description
1. Call to order - The meeting was called to order at 5:36 p.m.
2. Roll Call - Excused Absence: Kelly Spreitzer, Absence: Gerard Philpotts
3. Changes to the Agenda - 8.D. Willis Street Greenway Sculpture
4. Guests: Sound Transit Kent Garage
Ryan Feddersen (Artist for Kent Garage)
Lucile Chich (Project Manager, Sound Transit)
5. August Minutes - Olmsted made a motion to approve the minutes as written.
Treese seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
6. Treasurer's Report - September month end reports were distributed for review.
7. Performing Arts Committee
A. Spotlight Series
-2024-2025 updates: Magical Strings 12/8: 306 tickets sold as of 11/13.
Ushers: Ryan Olmsted, Kerry French, and Julianna Hind.
B. 2025 Summer Concerts update
8. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee
A. City Art Plan - 2025-2029 - Visual Arts Committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. on
Wed., Dec. 11 prior to the full Commission meeting.
The public may submit written public comments that relate to an agenda item by emailing:
cityclerk@kentwa.gov by 3:30 p.m. on the day of this commission meeting. After 3:30 p.m.,
written public comments may only be submitted in person by presenting them to the commission
secretary at the public meeting. Written public comments that do not relate to a committee agenda
item are not permitted. Written public comments are not read into the record.
Unless otherwise noted, the Arts Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. the 2nd Wednesday of each
month at the Centennial Building, 1st floor conference rooms, 400 W. Gowe St., Kent, WA 98032.

C. Herbert Bayer renderings - Loan-out request
Hind made a motion to loan three Herbert Bayer renderings to the Aspen
Institute's Bayer Center for their exhibition "Sculpting the Environment: Herbert
Bayer in Three Dimensions (on view from 6/10/25 to 4/18/26.) Hazen seconded
and the motion carried unanimously.
D. Willis Street Greenway Sculpture - Removing due to ongoing vandalism.
Discussion about next steps.
9. General updates/other business
A. 2025 Community Arts Support Program - Caravaglio made a motion to approve
the panel's funding recommendations for 2025. Westman seconded and the motion
carried unanimously.
B. 2025 Give Me Culture grant applications
-Kinara Park Kids Classroom - Mill Creek MS Mural
Hind made a motion to approve the application in the amount of $1,000.
Caravaglio seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
-Culture Generation - Taste of Kent/Taste of Community
Kristenson made a motion to approve the application in the amount of $500.
Olmsted seconded and the motion carried.
C. 2025 Officers - Call for nominations (Chair will send an email for nominations);
vote at December meeting.
D. Retreat Debrief - Stekovic, Hazen, Hind, and Caravaglio met to refine a values
statement, which will be shared soon.
10. Next Meeting/Holiday Party - December 11, 5:30 p.m.
11. Adjourn - The meeting was adjourned at 6:52 p.m.
