Arts Commission Minutes
Commissioners: Chair Countess Stekovic, Vice Chair Ryan Olmsted, Treasurer Gerard Philpotts,
Christy Caravaglio, Kerry French, Renee Hazen, Julianna Hind, Campbell Kristenson, Colleen Maloney, John

Item Description
1. Call to order - The meeting was called to order at 5:42 p.m.
2. Roll Call - Excused: Stekovic, Hazen, Kristenson
3. Changes to the Agenda - None
4. July Minutes - French made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Westman
seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
5. Treasurer's Report - June month end reports were distributed for review.
6. Performing Arts Committee
A. 2024-2025 Spotlight Series - Ticket sales are strong.
B. 2024 Summer Concerts update - 1,550 total attendance at "Wednesday Picnic
Performances" at West Fenwick Park. With one concert remaining, attendance at
"Thursdays at the Lake" is at 1,100.
7. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee
-Garrison Creek - No updates, project on hold to work out construction details
-East Hill North - Project placed on indefinite hold due to issue with Public
Works regarding adjacent road improvements.
B. Traffic Signal Control Box Art Wraps - Caravaglio made a motion to approve
proposals from Kay Burnett, Rodney King, and Gabrielle Abbott. McLaughlin
seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The public may submit written public comments that relate to an agenda item by emailing:
cityclerk@kentwa.gov by 3:30 p.m. on the day of this commission meeting. After 3:30 p.m.,
written public comments may only be submitted in person by presenting them to the commission
secretary at the public meeting. Written public comments that do not relate to a committee agenda
item are not permitted. Written public comments are not read into the record.
Unless otherwise noted, the Arts Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. the 2nd Wednesday of each
month at the Centennial Building, 1st floor conference rooms, 400 W. Gowe St., Kent, WA 98032.

A. Arts Commission planning/retreat - Sat., Nov. 2
B. Give Me Culture grant application - theatre battery
Ohno made a motion to approve full funding in the amount of $1,000 for
Theatre Battery's Romeo and Juliet project. French seconded and the motion
carried unanimously.
C. Kent Cornucopia Days booth - Thanks to Commissioners Olmsted, Hind,
Maloney, and Westman for staffing the booth.
