Commissioner Weissich made a motion to approve the minutes from the
September 25, 2024, regular Commission meeting. Motion was moved by
Chair Thomas; motion passed 2-0.

Dear Mr. Mendoza Chavez;
Congratulations on being hired as a Probationary Police Recruit Officer for the Kent Police Department. We are
looking forward to working with you and know that you will have a great deal to offer the Department and the
City of Kent.
This letter is to confirm our recent offer of employment. Your employment with the City will be effective Friday,
November 1, 2024. Upon receipt of this letter, please call the Training Sergeant, Sgt. Cory Eaton, at (253)856-
5855 for details on your duty assignment. You will be receiving two emails from cityofken nmyworkday.com with
new hire onboarding log in information and credentials for the onboarding portal. Please check your email,
including your junk mail folder and notify HR at (253)856-5270 if you don't receive them. It is critical for you to
log in, review new employee information and complete all assigned checklist tasks before your new hire
orientation. We anticipate this process will take you approximately 15 minutes.
You have been scheduled for a new employee orientation on effective Friday, November 1, at 9:15 AM with the
Benefits staff in Human Resources. Please arrive at the Police Department at 8:00 AM. Officer Graff will facilitate
your first day including a 9:00 AM appointment with Multimedia to have your City access card photo taken.
Please bring document(s) required by government regulations for all new hires providing proof of your eligibility
to work in the United States, which you will need to complete your I-9 form on your first day. A list of acceptable
documents can be found on the Onboarding portal.
Your starting base salary will be at Recruit Step A, at $7,575.00 per month. You will be eligible for a step increase
on the first of the month following graduation from the Basic Law Enforcement Academy. You will be placed on
probationary status for 12 months following successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Academy. All
other benefits will follow your union contract. Upon your successful completion of probation, you are eligible for a
training opportunity of your choosing within the prescribed parameters (up to $1,000, up to one week, in-state,
and job related) to further your professional development.
If the terms of this offer of employment are acceptable to you, please so indicate by signing on the acceptance
line and returning one executed original to Recruiting Officer Wayne Graff at the address listed above.

Dear Emilie:
Congratulations on being hired as a Police Data Analyst for the Kent Police Department.We are looking forward to working with
you in this capacity and know that you will have a great deal to offer the City and its residents.
As a condition of your employment,you successfully passed a position relevant pre-employment background check and your
employment in this position will be effective 1/2/2025. Your annual salary will be$97,176.00,which is pay grade 40 and Step-A
(2024 rates). Cost of living adjustments for 2025 have not been established yet but, when approved,will go into effect on
1/2/2025. The probationary period is twelve months from your date of hire.You will be eligible for a step increase, pending a
successful performance evaluation, on January 1, 2025. Please note that this offer is contingent upon the successful completion
of any required pre-employment processes.
As a new employee, you will accrue eight hours of vacation and eight hours of sick leave every month.Your sick leave is available
for use as it is accrued.Vacation leave is available for use the month following your six(6) month anniversary with the City.You
are also eligible to accrue compensatory time in this position as outlined in the AFSCME collective bargaining agreement. You will
be credited with two(2) Personal Holidays as well, which are also available for use immediately following date of hire. All other
benefits are the same as those provided to other members of the AFSCME union.
You will receive two emails from cityofkent@myworkday.com with new hire onboarding log in information and credentials for the
onboarding portal. Please check your email, including your junk mail folder and notify us if you don't receive them. It is critical for
you to log in, review new employee information and complete all assigned checklist tasks before your hire date. We anticipate this
process will take you approximately 15 minutes.
Coordinate with Christy Roeber for your first day of employment start time. Christy can be reached via email at
croeber(abkentwa.gov. At 9 a.m., you will need to meet with a member of Multimedia on the first floor of City Hall to take your
badge photo for a new employee badge. You will be attending new employee orientation at 9:15 a.m. that day. This will be
facilitated by a member of the Human Resources Benefits team and will take place in the Centennial Building (Room 105).
Please have document(s) required by government regulations for all new hires providing proof of your eligibility to work in the
United States, which you will need to complete your 1-9 form.A list of acceptable documents can be found on your Onboarding
portal. Please note the City participates in eVerify.
After your first day of employment, you will receive a task in your Workday inbox to complete your benefits election. A Benefits
Analyst will schedule a Teams meeting to discuss your benefits questions at a later date. Please be prepared to select your
