HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Civil Service Commission - 03/24/2021 (2) Civil Service Commission March 24, 2021 Regular Meeting Minutes Kent, Washington Approval Pending Date: March 24, 2021 Time: 5:30 p.m. Place: This meeting was held remotely via Zoom Attending: Jeff Piecewicz- Chair; Pauline Thomas, Commissioner; Callius Zaratkiewicz, Commissioner; Natalie Winecka, Secretary/Chief Examiner Agenda: 1. Call to Order Chair Piecewicz called the meeting to order at 5:31 PM 2. Roll Call All Commissioners were present. 3. Changes to the Agenda There were no changes to the agenda. 4. Approval of the Minutes Commissioner Zaratkiewicz made a motion to approve the minutes from the February 24, 2021 Civil Service Commission meeting. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Thomas; motion passed 3-0. S. Consent Items to Accept A. Emails dated February 10, 2021 and February 22, 2021 from Corrections Sergeant Pakeke Pisia providing notice of his intent to retire effective May 28, 2021. B. Letter dated February 23, 2021 from Chief Padilla reinstating Ofr. Sam Steiner to the position of Police Officer effective March 16, 2021. C. Letter dated February 25, 2021 from Chief Padilla to Nicholas Lontz congratulating him on being hired as a Probationary Police Recruit Officer effective March 16, 2021. D. Email dated February 25, 2021 from Ofr. Donevan Dexheimer notifying the Chief of his intent to retire effective June 18, 2021. E. Memo dated March 2, 2021 from Chief Padilla accepting the retirement of Corrections Sgt. Pakeke Pisia effective May 28, 2021. F. Letter dated March 2, 2021 from Chief Padilla notifying Ofr. David Castro that he successfully completed the probationary period and is appointed to regular employment status effective March 2, 2021. Steve Kelly notifying the Chief of his intent to retire effective June 30, 2021. H. Memo dated March 16, 2021 from Chief Padilla accepting the retirement of Det. Steve Kelly effective June 30, 2021. I. Memo dated March 18, 2021 from Chief Padilla accepting the retirement of Ofr. Donevan Dexheimer effective June 18, 2021. J. Memo dated March 18, 2021 from Chief Examiner Winecka with eligibility list removals through March 18, 2021. There being no questions, Commissioner Zaratkiewicz made a motion to accept consent items A-J. Commissioner Thomas seconded the motion; motion passed 3-0. 6. Items to Approve A. Reinstatement list for the rank of Corrections Sergeant that was established on July 1, 2020. B. Continuous Testing Eligibility List for Lateral/Experienced Police Officer that was established on February 22, 2021. C. Continuous testing eligibility list for Entry Level Police Officer that was established on March 7, 2021. There being no questions, Chair Piecewicz made a motion to approve items A-C. Commissioner Thomas seconded the motion; motion passed 3-0. 7. Action Items A. Memo dated March 12, 2021 from Asst. Chief Jarod Kasner requesting an amendment to the request to test for the rank of Sergeant that was approved on February 24, 2021. Chief Examiner Winecka explained that the only change was the number of candidates allowed to progress from the written exam to the WPR process. There being no additional questions, Commissioner Thomas made a motion to approve the revisions to the request to test. Commissioner Zaratkiewicz seconded the motion; motion passed 3-0. B. Memo dated March 15, 2021 from Chief Padilla requesting the reinstatement of Corrections Sergeant Chris Ward. Page 2 of 3 Civil Service Commission March 24, 2021 Regular Meeting Minutes Kent, Washington Approval Pending Commissioner Thomas also made the following motion: "I make a motion to approve the reinstatement of Chris Ward to the rank of Corrections Sergeant." Commissioner Zaratkiewicz seconded the motion; motion passed 3-0. 8. For the Good of the Order Chief Examiner Winecka discussed that City facilities may begin to start opening after July 5 and that she would keep the Commission apprised if that would necessitate them coming back for in-person meetings. Commissioner Thomas also expressed that she had a scheduling conflict and would not be present at the April 28 meeting. 9. Adjournment Chair Piecewicz made a motion to adjourn.
