Location: Centennial Center 41h floor, Suite 401 Ronda Cell: 206-450-7203 Parks, Recreation and Community Services & Arts Commission MISSION: Provide leadership in establishing cultural opportunities and arts education. Improve the quality of life and enhance the aesthetic environment. Promote Kent as a center for great arts. Sharona Chandra seconded and the motion carried unanimously. II TREASURER: Report - January Month End - Reviewed No III GUESTS: Michael Tolleson spoke about the 3rd Thursday art walk he is starting in downtown Kent. The first event will be on April 16. IV COMMITTEE BUSINESS: A. Performing Arts/Committee Programs Topic Action Item 1. 2014-2015 Spotlight Series No Upcoming shows: -BYU Theatre Ballet 3/12/15 - Sales are lower than expected for this show - currently 139 -Schoolhouse Rock Live! 3/21/15, 71 tickets sold -Masters of Soul 4/7/15 - 73 tickets sold 2. 2015 Booking No -Update: Staff shared confirmed and offered shows for 2015-2016. The schedule will be final in the next month. 3. 2015 Summer Concert Series Yes -Wendy Johnson made a motion to approve the 2015 Summer Concert Series schedule. Bayard DuBois seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Next Meeting: As full Commission - May 12, 5:30 p.m., Centennial 401 B. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee Action Item Topic 1. Centennial Center Gallery No -Current show: Student Art Exhibit (March 9-20) There will be a reception on Friday, March 13, 5-7 p.m. -Next show: Lea Bishop (3/31 - 5/21), Reception on 3/31, 5-7 p.m. 2. Summer Art Exhibit/Opening Reception Yes Jurors: Eduardo Calderon and Randi Ganulin Commissioners reviewed bios and voted to approve jurors for the 2015 Summer Art Exhibit. Sharona Chandra made a motion to approve Eduardo Calderon and Randi Ganulin. Wendy Johnson seconded and the motion carried unanimously. 3. 2015-2019 City Art Plan Yes The Commission reviewed the final draft of the plan. Highlights include: -Kent DIY (Do it Yourself) project -An increase in the amount allocated for portable collection purchases -Kent Valley Loop Trail projects identified by the art component of the master plan -An opportunity fund - left flexible to maximize resources as potential projects and partners arise. Dan Cox made a motion to approve the plan. Tonya Goodwillie seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Next Meeting: As full Commission - April - TBD, 5:30 p.m., Centennial 401 V EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE: 1.
