BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Board Chair Melvin Roberts; Board Vice-Chair
Karen Chandler; Board Secretary Frank Boosman; board members Rich Davis,
Andrew Sobczyk, Nick Swan, Brandon Swanson, Scott Taylor.
STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: Garrett Inouye, Project Engineer (for Susanne P.
Smith); Hayley Bonsteel, Senior Long Range Planner.
ABSENT: Board members Kyle Applebury, Craig Fuller, Dmitriy Zhuravel.
1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 5:47 PM, with Board Chair Roberts presiding.
2. Roll Call
Board members Kyle Applebury, Craig Fuller, and Dmitriy Zhuravel were absent.
3. Approval of minutes
Board member Swanson moved and Vice-Chair Chandler seconded that the minutes
of the meeting dated July 31, 2017 be approved; the motion was carried
unanimously.
4. Public Works Presentation
Hayley Bonsteel made a presentation on the Meet Me on Meeker project and its
implications for a protected east-west cycling route through downtown. Hayley
identified two funding sources: the King County Trails to Transit program, and the
Transportation Alternatives Program via the Puget Sound Regional Council.
S. Strategic Priorities
The Board held a discussion about its strategic priorities. Some of the high-level
ideas discussed included:
• East-West connector (including light rail and Transit Center connections)
• Public education / "Tour de Kent" / business cooperation
• Expanding KBAB charter to include pedestrians / complete streets
• Advocacy / cooperation with local bike-related businesses
The Board members agreed to continue this discussion at the next monthly meeting
with the goal of making policy recommendations at that time.
