Chair Boyce called the meeting to order at 4:00 pm. Introductions were made. Chair Boyce
asked for any additions to the agenda. Seeing none, he called for approval of the Minutes.
1. Approval of Minutes
MOTION: Tim Higgins moved to approve the minutes to the meeting of July 27,
2015, which was seconded by Barbara Smith. Motion PASSES 5-0.
2. Asks — KDP Main Street Conference $10.000
Barbara Smith Executive Director for the Kent Downtown Partnership presented a
proposal with the State of Washington to host the Main Street Conference for April
2016. The proposal needs to be submitted by October 30tn and sometime in
November will be when it will be known who is going to be chosen. In order to do the
conference KDP will need money to help with the classrooms at Green River
Community College as well as award ceremonies, the cost of things are expensive
about $6,100 just for food for one reception for 175-200 people.
KDP has already asked Heritage Bank and Wells Fargo to contribute for funding; Kent
Downtown Partnership will be giving $2,000 to $4,000 depending on the final budget.
KDP Asking for $10,000 from the Lodging Tax Advisory Committee, the budget is
$15,000. KDP anticipate this will bring people to Kent to eat at the local restaurants,
as well as stay in Kent's hotels. Conference dates are April 26tn 271n and 28tn
Packets will go out including Kent's Dining Guide, Kent attractions, and hotel
availability.
2. Asks — Seattle University Men's and Women's Basketball $3,000
Steve Turcotte presented the Seattle University Basketball 3 on 3 Event held at
ShoWare to the Committee. The request is for $3,000 with approximately 30-35 room
nights stay in Kent Hotels.
Kent is turning into a basketball area. The Women's tournament wants to play one
game and men one game. They have already booked hotels. Funding is limited for
some of the sponsorships.
There will be a Denver women's team, a team from Montana, small college team from
Bellingham, all games are set, Seattle U is already on track. We are having lots of
basketball tournaments in the area; MLK tournaments, Kent shoot out. On December
19tn at ShoWare shootout; 8 games in one day. The State champions from Oregon
being brought up. In January at the Kent Shoot Out, all high schools play each other.
In February the tournament; South Puget Sound Championship, 4tn year. Committee
asked how many people on a team. Turcotte replied 12 to 15 players; the travel
party is usually 20 people per team.
