Committee Members Present: Tim Clark, Jacquie Alexander, Kathy Madison, Andy Wangstad,
and Greg Haffner. Others Present: Nathan Torgelson, Cliff Craig, Marcelle Pechler, Robin
Hasbrouck, Lori Hogan, Todd Smith, Sylvia McDaniel.
The meeting was called to order by Clark at 2:00 p.m. and introductions were made.
Financial Report. Craig explained the Operating Fund as of September 30, 2005, noting that
the fund balance is $16,039.
Kent Bike Festival. Lori Hogan, Acting Parks Director, pointed out the highlights and
challenges of the event, which was held on June 19, 2005. She noted that no communication
has been received regarding a similar event in 2006, and said she will keep the committee
informed about this and other related events.
Crusaders of Kent. Todd Smith, Director of Marketing, explained the hockey program and
their attempts to increase attendance at games. He noted that they are working with Kent
Parks and Nathan Torgelson agreed to provide additional information on possibilities for
promotion.
Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Torgelson noted that CTCA's application for a
Certificate of Need has been denied, and that they will appeal the decision.
Kent Station. Torgelson gave an update on the status of businesses and events at Kent
Station, and noted that Phase II will begin in early 2006, with completion by October 2006.
Seattle Southside Visitor Services. No update was given.
Kent Lodging Association. Hasbrouck reported that the website may be available in
November.
Hotel/Condo Complex. Torgelson stated that the project, including a LaQuinta Hotel, will
begin construction in early 2006. It was noted that the conference center will be 1,600 sq. ft.
and will accommodate a maximum of 125 people.
Approval of Minutes. Haffner moved to approve the minutes of September 15, 2005.
Madison seconded and the motion carried.
2006 Kent Chamber Contract. Hasbrouck distributed copies of the proposed contract and
reviewed each line item and deliverable. She noted that the $18,000 amount is the same as
last year. A discussion on providing a map showing landmarks such as City Hall, the post office,
l the library, attractions, and advertisers was then held.

Madison moved to delete Items 5 and 6 from the proposed contract and to substitute an area
attraction map. Alexander seconded and the motion carried. The Chamber agreed to come
back to the committee with a list of landmarks to be included on the map.
Pechler agreed to provide a revised contract and Haffner moved to submit the proposed
contract to the Operations Committee. The motion was seconded and carried. Torgelson
pointed out that the Committee will meet on November 1 and that the proposal will go to the
City Council on November 15.
Communications and Marketing Manager. Sylvia McDaniel explained her background and
the duties of this position.
Next Meeting. It was noted that the next meeting will not be scheduled until after the first of
the year.
Adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 3:10 p.m.
