KENT LODGING ASSOCIATION MINUTES

Barbara Ivanov opened the meeting at 9:OOAM at the Chamber office.
Present Julie Garcia, Lynn Edwards, Sandra Bagnuk, Kathy Madison, John Deleva,Dottie
Scarborough, and Barbara Ivanov.
September Minutes approved(Lynn Edwards).
Citywide Blitz Mikron, Flow and Expeditors are the contest winners.
Action Items
1. Barbara will put article regarding winners in the December Newsletter; note how to get more
tracking forms for first quarter 2002 blitz.
2. KLA will present awards 9:00— 11:OOAM on Wednesday November 7; Barbara will call ahead
and set appointments.
3. Next blitz will run January 1 —March 31, 2002. KLA representative will call on 50 clients and
give them promotional tracking sheet.
4. Next blitz prizes:
3rd prize: Rottles $100 gift certificate: 1 — 10 room nights
2nd prize: Starbucks $200 gift certificate: 11 —24 room nights
} 1st prize: Weekend getaway at LaConner Channel Lodge: 25+room nights
2002 Budget Kathy said that the city's hotel tax receipts are uncertain in 2002, so budget decision was
postponed until November 2001.
Team recommended to ask for$98,250 staged approximately 50%in January, and 50%in June as
receipts come in. Third quarter spending to include meeting planner line items; Puget Sound Business
Journal, Olympia News and AAA ads; website consulting, content management and search engine
marketing.

Action Item
1. Lynn will preview candidates by phone and set interviews for October 19 at 9:OOAM and
10:00AM.
Washington State Visitors Guide John presented benefits of advertising in the Washington State
Visitors Guide,which is aimed at preplanning market in surrounding states as well as Washington
state. They'll print 400,000 copies verses competition's print run of 200,000.
Action Items
1. Team decision to purchase a 1/6-page ad in 2002 book; cost$2,835. Deadlines for copy
(November 8) and art(November 15). John's phone is 360-898-4096,ballo jeangaol.com.
2. Barbara will purchase photo image. Copy will emphasize proximity to SeaTac Airport, Seattle
and Tacoma attractions and affordable accommodations, e.g. Tukwila's copy.
3. Ad will feature unique URL and toll-free phone number.
