MINUTES for November 13 2001
The regular meeting of the Lodging Tax Advisory committee was called to order at 2:38 p.m. by chair,
Rico Yingling.
Committee Members Present: Kathy Madison, Carol Vass, Andy Wangstad, Rico Yingling
Committee Members Absent: Vickie Molzer, Diana Albertson and Dan Shirk
Staff Present: Jacki Skaught and May Miller, Finance Director
Guests: Lori Hogan, Recreation and Cultural Services Superintendent, Lynn Edwards, Barbara Ivanov,
and Raul Vaca from the Kent Chamber of Commerce
Approval of Meeting Minutes for September 18, 2001: Minutes for the September 18, 2001 meeting
were approved as read.
Request for Partial Funding;
Lori Hogan presented a request for $7,000 to bid for two softball tournaments. Carol Vass moved that
they allocate $7,000 from 2001 monies to assist on bids for the tournaments, seconded and passed.

Allocation of City Debt Obligation; May Miller
Carol Vass moved to allocate $85,000 annually to pay down the golf course debt for years 2001 to
2004. Seconded and passed.
Lodging Tax Use Policy Guidelines; Jacki Skaught
Jacki Skaught presented a draft proposal for Lodging Tax Allocation Policies and Guidelines (see
attached). The committee will look them over and suggest changes or suggestions. It was agreed to try
and do this by e-mail and finalize at the February meeting.
Reintroduction of Chamber budget Request; Barbara Ivanov
The Chamber of Commerce Lodging Association presented two contracts for 2002 (see attached). The
first contract will be January to June and them come back in April and present a July to December
contract. Rico, asked if you had to cut what would you cut? Barb answered: Advertising in the second
half, travel and a less expensive familiarization tour. Andy Wangstad move to allocate $50,000 for half
year contract with the Chamber of Commerce Lodging Association for marketing Kent to increase
tourism, meetings and overnight stays. Seconded and passed.
Adjourn: The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
Next Meeting: To be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at 2:30 p.m.
Note: The February 19 meeting was subsequently changed to March 19, 2002 at 2:30 p.m.
