HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Lodging Tax Advisory Committee - 03/17/2005 KENT LODGING TAX ADVISORY COMMITTEE W ABHINOTON March 17, 2005 Committee Members Present: Tim Clark, Jacquie Alexander, Denise Gray, Kathy Madison, Vickie Molzer, Andy Wangstad, and Greg Haffner. Others Present: Nathan Torgelson, Kari Galloway, Robin Hasbrouck, Steve Crowell and Bill Westcott. The meeting was called to order by Clark at 2:00 p.m. and introductions were made. Financial Report. Torgelson distributed copies of the Operating Fund as of February 28, 2005 and explained the figures. He noted that there will be a $17,500 expenditure in 2006 for the Senior Western World Softball tournament. Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Torgelson noted that the public hearing on the State Certificate of Need has been postponed to April 20 at Kent Memorial Park, and noted that Madison, Gray and Molzer have agreed to attend the hearing. Hasbrouck stated that the Chamber will also testify in support. Torgelson pointed out that the City Council passed a Resolution of Support on March 15th. Seattle Southside Visitor Services. Gallaway distributed the 2004 Annual Report and noted that the new Vacation Planner will be ready for distribution early in April. She added that there has been a great increase of drop-in traffic at the new visitor's center since the addition of signage on the freeway. Kent Lodging Association. Hasbrouck distributed information about the Chamber's website and explained the data. Approval of Minutes. Wangstad moved to approve the minutes of January 20, 2005. Madison seconded and the motion carried. Kent Lions Club Request. Bill Westcott and Steve Crowell explained the history of Cornucopia Days and the effect of the Dragon Boat races over the past few years. They noted that boats have come from Canada, Oregon, California, and requested $12,000 to be used to expand the event by encouraging even more out of town boats to attend. They noted that this would result in hotel stays for the teams and their families and friends. Upon conclusion of their presentation, Westcott and Crowell left the meeting. After a brief discussion, Madison moved to direct Torgelson to negotiate a contract in the amount of $6,000 to support the Lions Club's promotion of Dragon Boat Races. Wangstad seconded and the motion carried. Lodging Tax Advisory Board Page Two March 17, 2005 Next Meeting. The next meeting was scheduled for May 19, 2005, at 2:00 p.m., and it was agreed that the Board will not meet after that until September. Adjournment.
