HomeMy WebLinkAboutCity Council Committees - Lodging Tax Advisory Committee - 07/18/2000 LODGING TAX ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES for July 18, 2000 The regular meeting of the Lodging Tax Advisory committee was called to order at 3:10 p.m. by chair, Rico Yingling. Committee Members Present: Don Campbell, Carol Vass, Kathy Madison and Andy Wangstad. Staff Present: Jacki Skaught and Cheryl Viseth Staff Guest: May Miller Approval of Meeting Minutes for June 27, 2000: The minutes for the June 27, meeting were approved as read. Financial Report: It was decided that May Miller will distribute an itemized expenditure report on a monthly basis. Update Tourism Brochure—Jacki: Jacki showed the committee what the brochure colors and look would be. It was decided that the Website must be listed on the brochure. Jacki noted that the brochure would include an in-house phone number that would be retrieved each day by the Mayor's Office. Jacki will notify Chamber of Commerce when the mock up design is ready. Washington State Visitors Guide—Lisa Schwartz and John DeLeva: It was moved seconded and passed that the following expenditures be authorized for the Washington State Tourism Visitors Guide: $5,046 for purchase, $6,000 for design and placement of ad for Washington 2001 Visitor Guide with 50% of ad to be paid by August 1. Tourism Marketing Plan — Kathy Madison: Kathy noted that there was nothing new on the marketing plan, but that she brought the idea up to the "Kent Lodging Association". She noted that the City of Renton had hired a PR firm to set up their Website the "Hotel Group" wanted to use $40,000, which would go to the Chamber to set up the Website. Other: Rico feels that the committee is getting into to many details-would have to meet at least weekly. Rico suggested turning over the money to the Chamber for them to administer the "Tourism Plan" and report back to the Committee with a quarterly report. Don wants to make sure that we know how the money is being spent. Andy also wanted to make sure that all the materials have same look and feel as City material. The committee asked for the Chamber to provide them with a Tourism Program and Plan proposal including budget and timeline.
