MINUTES for January 16, 2001
The regular meeting of the Lodging Tax Advisory committee was called to order at 2:40 p.m. by chair,
Rico Yingling.
Committee Members Present: Carol Vass, Kathy Madison and Andy Wangstad, Tom Lamoureux
Staff Present: Jacki Skaught
Members Absent: Don Campbell
Guests: Barbara Ivanov, Kent Chamber of Commerce, Jack Becvar, Executive Director Kent Historical
Museum and Bud Battle's, President of Kent Historical Society.
Approval of Meeting Minutes for September 26, 2000: The minutes for the September 26, 2000
meeting were approved as read.
Financial Report: No report given, a 2000-year end final statement is needed.
Chamber Report on Marketing Program — Barbara Ivanov:
• Barbara noted that the City has signed the contract.
• Meeting with potential subcontractor.
• Barbara presented Lynn Edwards proposal as a person for sales and marketing Kent (see
attached) $12,000 - $15,000. Item #3 would increase slightly, includes training for sales staff. Contract
with Chamber for 3 months for marketing component.
• Barbara and Lynn will be meeting with the Lodging Association next week to finalize her role.
• Web page proposal from ZLand (see attached)will take proposal to Lodging Association and
finalize the contract if, okay with Lodging Association.
Kent Historical Museum—Jack Becvar, Executive Director and Bud Battles President of Kent
Historical Museum:
Jack shared with the committee a proposal for an Executive Director.
The Historical Society has 423 members, membership is $10/person $15/family
1 - Part-time staff, Jack's salary - $500/mos. before taxes.
Jack introduced Bud Battles, President of the Kent Historical Museum
Need a professional director and will eventually need a professional curator (see attached)
City owns the house
Is there any lodging tax money available to support Executive Director, asking for$35,000.
Carol, said she would like to support the Historical Society because it is very important. She suggested
that the Historical Society make an effort to raise some of the money.
Andy, stated that the committee needs to be careful with pledging money on an ongoing basis when
other options for money may be out there.
Rico, felt that the Lodging Tax Committee cannot tell them specifically how to spend money.
The consensus to ask the Historical Society to bring us a proposal.
Next Meeting: To be held on Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at 3:00 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
