Other business 5. Next meeting 6. Adj ourn 1. KENT LODGING TAX ADVISORY COMMITTEE Wae , aro April 30, 2004 Committee Members Present: Tim Clark, Vickie Molzer, Kathy Madison, Jacquie Alexander. Others Present: Nathan Torgelson, Bob Nachlinger, Katherine Kertzman, Kerri Galloway, Marcelle Pechler, Robin Hasbrook, Barbara Dickinson, Sarah Lee and Linda Vaughan. The meeting was called to order by Clark at 10:00 a.m., and introductions were made. Approval of Minutes. Molzer moved to approve the minutes of February 13, 2004. Madison seconded and the motion carried. Board Member Positions. Torgelson noted that he and Clark are working on filling the vacant community member position. Financial Report. Bob Nachlinger distributed copies of the current budget analysis and noted that the fund has received approximately $23,000 this year, and has spent $30,000, most of which is for the Western World softball tournament. 2006 World Senior Softball Tournament Bids. Torgelson announced that Kent, partnering with SeaTac, Tukwila and Federal Way, was successful in obtaining the 2006 World Senior Softball Tournament. He noted that the tournament will begin the day after Labor Day for 13 days, and that there will be 200 teams involved. Seattle Southside Visitor Services. Katherine Kertzman, Program Director of SSVS, presented information on their program and on partnership opportunities with Kent. During discussion of budget issues, it was noted that partnering with SSVS would take most of Kent's lodging tax dollars, that the vacation planner would need to be redesigned at Kent's expense, and that a third full time person would be hired by SSVS. Kertzman noted that a decision would have to be made by September. Upon Clark's recommendation, MADISON MOVED to form a subcommittee to look into the options. Molzer seconded and the motion carried. Committee members are Vicki Molzer, Kathy Madison, Robin Hasbrook, Linda Vaughan, and Marcelle Pechler. Clark agreed to meet with the subcommittee. Kent Bike Festival. Torgelson noted receipt of a request from the Kent Bike Festival for a grant of $1,000 for the Kent Bike Festival to be held in Kent on May 30, 2004. He noted that there will be up to 1,000 participants, 10-15% of whom will come from out of town, and that some city streets will be closed. Torgelson, Alexander and Madison each spoke in favor of the event, and MOLZER MOVED to support the request for I Lodging Tax Advisory Board April 20, 2004 Page Two $1,000. Madison seconded and the motion carried. It was noted that this issue will appear on the Operations Committee agenda. Survey Kiosks. Torgelson reiterated that the state tourism office is doing a survey through a kiosk where travelers are asked questions about their visit. He said the city has an opportunity to place five kiosks, and that he will contact hotels about hosting one from June through September. Pechler suggested putting one in the Chamber of Commerce and possible KOA. Kent Lodging Association. Pechler noted that the next meeting is on May 12t" at 9:00 a.m. and that they'll discuss a marketing strategy plan. Hasbrook gave their latest statistics on website usage. Other Business — Kent Station. Torgelson displayed drawings of the Kent Station project. Next Meeting. It was noted that the next meeting will be held at 2:00 p.m. on May 20, 2004. Adjournment.
