It has been suggested by Andrew Hutchison, of the Best Western Plaza by the Green Hotel that we apply for help from the City of Kent in the way of a tourism enhancement grant in hosting our tournament. The Acers Fastpitch Organization is a nonprofit youth organization located in Auburn since 1998, serving young female athletes in their pursuit of playing Fastpitch at the highest level possible, participating in elite tournaments across the nation. All of our funding is acquired through player fees, sponsorships and fundraising. Our annual budget, not including team travel and lodging expenses, is approximately $225,000 so we have to do a lot of fundraising. Our budget includes facility lease costs, uniforms, training equipment, utilities, administrative costs, tournament entry fees and etc. One of the fundraisers that we do annually is to host this elite tournament, which we have been doing for about ten years now. We host this tournament each year during thfeiis weasuburnand Enu Three years ago we were able to start using field complexes inLaw, allowing us to expand the venue to approximately 60 teams, making it one of the largest youth Fastpitch tournaments in the area held annually. Last season, at least half of the 60 teams were from out of town; coming from Canada, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Eastern Washington with the remainder from the greater Puget Sound and Southwest Washington areas. Last season, based on the teams participating teams there were approximately 1,460 room nights needed to lodge the team participants, the spectators and the support staff and umpires. Approximately 70% of the lodging was based in various Kent hotels. This season we plan on trying to incorporate field complexes in Federal Way as well, which should a enable us to allow as many as 76 to 90 teams to participate. We could very easily need as many as I 2,000 room nights with at least'/2 of the lodging with Kent area hotels. Expenses for this tournament r are quite high, so our return is not great. 1 i N w1 S ASSt]CQ\o THE NATIONAL GOVERNING BODY OF SOFTBALL Honored Guest, As our country begins the long road out of arguably the worst economic crisis in our lives, citizens are requesting more from their cities and towns.
