Date: 12/16/2022 I. Proposed Change This change makes the fallowing revisions to the Contract Documents and provides compensation for added work; Additional dewatering at unforeseen underground spring to allow construction of bridge abutment #1. Work was tracked on Scarsella Bros. FA sheets dated 6/24/22 to 7/21/22 attached. II. Reason and Backaround for Change During excavation of bridge abutment #1 an underground spring was uncovered overwhelming foundation excavation stability, impacting foundation subgrade workability and preventing foundation construction. OTAK and GEOEngineers were consulted upon discovery. Direction was given to dewater the spring in order to maintain subgrade stability allowing foundation construction to proceed. Water flows required the addition of a 3" and 4" diameter electrical pump, including diesel generator to manage concentrated flow until backfill could be restored. Duration was from 12 PM 6/24 until 12 PM 7/21 when concrete cure was achieved allowing backfill of the excavation, III. Method of Payment NEW PAY ITEMS ❑ Not applirable 5ch. Total Est. GTAK (structural) and GeoEngineers are in agreement continuous pumping is necessary to ensure satisfactory foundation construction until backfill can be restored. We're looking at an approximate duration of 6/24 (additional pumps set) -- 7/21 (estimated end of cure time on adjacent retaining wall to allow backfill), 24/7 operation. Groundwater is flawing continuously from the northwest corner of the footing 1 excavation that would quickly outpace our original dewatering plan. The extra groundwater has made it necessary to add another generator a 3"0 pump and a 4"0 pump to our original tooting dewatering system. As discussed between Casey Nelson and yourself, Scarsella would request that the owner carry the cast of this additional equipment rental and fuel Far the generators and pumps. These expenses will be tracked and submitted for approval when the extra equipment is no longer needed, ie after the abutments have been backfilled. Sincerely, Aaron Weidman, P.E. A path of least resistance has been created for primary water flow and the pumps have been able to draw the charged water -level down with continuous pumping to a manageable condition. We will leave pumps running until backfill is able to occur. Thank you for the input. We would want to be sure we are getting the bearing capacity as planned. Il water tends to actively flow through the hole, it would be good to keep the pumps going until the hole is backfiIIed to prevent erosion and possible undermining of the footing. No need for a backside drain. If a drain is low enough to prevent water from loading the abutment it likely would selectively pull water to the abutment from the creek rather than drain it away, and if it is high enough to be out of the creek it would not reduce the water load significantly. In service, the water level should mostly be relatively equal on both sides of the abutment or higher on the creek side. Some differential height of water, on occasion, where the water is higher on the road side is ok. Bob Doherty, PE I Senior Bridge Engineer 1 Project Manager ❑tak, Inc. Attached is a brief video IMG_6927 of the condition as well as a picture at the beginning of the day IMG_E6911. Excavation was made down to below subgrade and clean railroad ballast brought in to stabilize the base. Probing the subgrade prior to ballast placement, native material was firm and unyielding below a top layer of fines that boiled in with the water flow. Currently 2 - 2" pumps, 1 - 3" pump and a 4" are being used to dewater the base, but as picture URMIE5513 shows there is still water within the excavation, top of aggregate is bottom of footing. The north side footing is dry with the use of 2 - 2" pumps. Is there any concern with this condition as far as the structure goes? Any need or desire for a backside drain to be added? Crews will be forming this foundation tomorrow, likely in some water-. Let me know ASAP if anything needs to change or be added as a result of the condition, Thanks, Jason Jason Barry, Capital Projects Supervisor Construction Management I Pu6Nc Works Department 220 Fourth Avenue South, Kent, WA 98032 Phone 253-856-5S46 I Cell 253-797-8462 • KE1+lT t.ayIcI►rwA_Qov www.KentWA.aaV PLEASE CONSIDER THE ENVIRONMENT BEFORE PRINTING THIS E- MAIL **Warning: Issue with File Attachment** 5 City of Kent Summit Landsburg Rd 1 Rock Creek Culvert Replacement Added dewatering due to unanticipated spring ground water beneath pier footing ❑ate Labor Equipment Materials Subcontractor Total 6/24/2022 $ 349.95 $ 1,561.01 $ $ - $ 1, 910.96 6/25/2022 $ 160-06 $ 2,817.50 $ $ $ 2,977.55 6/26/2022 $ 201.58 $ 2,817.50 $ $ $ 3,019.08 6/27/2022 $ - $ 2,761.09 $ $ $ 2.761.09 6/28/2022 $ $ 2,761.09 $ $ $ 2,761.09 8/29/2022 $ - $ 2.761.09 $ $ $ 2,761.09 6/30/2022 $ $ 2.761.09 $ $ $ 2,761.09 7/112022 $ $ 2.761.09 $ $ $ 2,761.09 7/212022 $ 160-06 $ 2.817-50 $ $ $ 2,977.55 7/3/2022 $ 73-56 $ 2,761-09 $ $ $ 2,834.65 7/4/2022 $ 175-28 $ 2.761-09 $ $ $ 2,936.36 7/5/2022 $ - $ 2.761.09 $ - $ $ 2,761.09 7/6/2022 $ $ 2,761.09 $ - $ $ 2,761.09 7/712022 5 $ 2,761.09 $ $ $ 2,761.09 7/8/2022 $ $ 2,761,09 $ $ - $ 2,761,09 7/9/2022 $ 160-06 $ 2,817.50 5 - $ $ 2,977.55 7/10/2022 $ 201.58 $ 2,817,50 $ $ $ 3,019A8 7/11/2022 $ - $ 2.761,09 $ $ - $ 2,761.09 7/1212022 $ $ 2,761,09 $ $ $ 2,761.09 7/13/2022 5 $ 2,761.09 $ $ - $ 2,761.09 7/14/2022 $ $ 2,761.09 $ $ $ 2,761.09 7/15/2022 $ $ 2,761.09 $ $ $ 2,761.09 7/16/2022 $ 160-06 $ 2,817.50 $ $ $ 2,977,56 7/17/2022 $ 201.58 $ 2,817.50 $ $ - S 3,019.08 7/18/2022 $ $ 2,761.09 $ $ - $ 2,761.09 7/19/2022 $ $ 2,761.09 $ $ - $ 2,761.09 7/20/2022 $ $ 2,761.09 $ $ - $ 2,761. 7/21 /2022 $ $ 1,448.19 $ $ $ 1,448.19 Total $ 1,843-77 $ 75,192.33 $ - $ $ 77,036.09 i 0 LL n Ix 0 C,1 l31 N 9 V S w w in z a w ' ❑ o a ua 9R R u3 w w W en vl vl N N E N N w w w $ t 7 r p Y Sii 2 = 'AW C 41 S N w In D W i m 0 g w a aWQ mN cW❑e y aaw Y m rWr r❑ maq ma a N Fm❑ ❑03mt u) ❑ ❑ wIn ❑a❑aa Lu N a❑ ti Wr a❑ L"a ❑aW ° ° tu o $ w m ' we 10 rz m col a o $ S+ Y of z w o k a o z 3❑❑ U V a w 0 w W O o ¢ o o 1 U❑ W N p 2d U m w p a w M w w in cat Vi w N H 4!
