Re: Conflict Indigent Defense Services - Notice to Terminate
To John O’Brien,
On December 6, 2022, the O’Brien Law Firm, PLLP notified the City that it is closing.
Accordingly, the City of Kent will terminate its Agreement for Conflict Indigent Defense
Services (Agreement) entered into on March 6, 2015, including all prior Amendments,
as of January 31, 2023.
Per Section X.B. of the Agreement, the Agreement may be terminated with 14 days
written notice. This letter serves as this written notice.
The continued representation of defendants after this termination shall be governed by
the interests of the defendants, the Rules of Professional Conduct, the Supreme Court’s
Standards for Indigent Defense, and the issues addressed in Wilbur v. Mt. Vernon, 989
F. Supp. 2d 1122 (2013).
