Arts Commission Minutes

1. Call to order Vice Chair Cox called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m.
2. Roll Call Excused: Goodwillie, Machler, Smith, Taskey
3. Guests:

-Lucia Neare Creative Consultancies Artist/Consultant
4. Changes to the Agenda Item 9.E. Community Arts Support Program
5. August Minutes YES
Owens made a motion to approve the minutes as written; Westman seconded and
the motion carried unanimously.
6. NO
July month end reports circulated for review.
7. Performing Arts Committee
A. Spotlight Series 2019-2020 NO
-JigJam Fri., Sept. 27, 130 tickets sold, Westman and Mackintosh to usher
-Che Apalache Sat., Oct. 19, 65 tickets sold, Kristenson and Maloney to usher
-Ticket sales strong for the season
B. Summer Concert Series Summary NO
-Successful season, although attendance was impacted by rainy weather.
Sponsorship was strong this year with the addition of Edward Jones as sponsor of
C. Artist review set meeting NO
-Staff will email Performing Arts Committee members to set a meeting time.
Unless otherwise noted, the Arts Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. the 2nd Tuesday of each month
at Centennial Center, Conference Room 401, 400 West Gowe St., Kent, WA 98032.

8.Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee
A. SoundTransit
-Kent Stations Update NO
SoundTransit Art Project Manager Ashley Long gave an overview of the two future

Kent Stations Kent-Des Moines Station and South 272 Street Station.
-Re:site Studio Kent-Des Moines Station art NO
Norman Lee of Re:site Studio spoke about the concept they are developing for
artwork at the Kent-Des Moines station/platform.
B. Public Art NO
-Traffic Signal Control Box Art Wraps Proposals for the eight selected artists are
due October 3; Arts Commission will review and approve at October 8 meeting.
-Morrill Meadows Parcours Art installation will take place next spring.
C. Kent Creates:
-Current exhibit Look Up (7/1 9/30) NO
9.General updates/other business
A. Creative Consultancies/Downtown Art Plan NO
-Project Feast: Journey to Peace, A Community Feast (9/15, 4:30 p.m.),
Commissioners are encouraged to attend.
B. Give Me Culture application: UTOPIA YES
-Philpotts made a motion to approve $500 in funding; Kristenson seconded and the
motion carried unanimously.
C. SOCO Culture NO
-Caravaglio attended 9/10 membership meeting
-Commissioner summit September 19.
D. Kent School District/Arts Education no activity NO
E. Community Arts Support Program deadline NO
-Deadline for 2020 applications is October 18. Owens, Philpotts, Westman, and
Bagrationoff will serve on the review panel.

11. Adjournment Vice Chair Cox adjourned the meeting at 6:53 p.m.
