4. April Minutes YES
Taskey made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Cox seconded and the
motion carried unanimously.
5. Treasurer’s Report – Staff presented for review
6. Performing Arts Committee
A. Spotlight Series 2018-2019 Report – Waiting on invoices from the school district
to process final numbers.
7. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee
A. Kent Creates:
-Current exhibit – Awakening (4/1 – 6/30)
-Voting on mobile devices – Would require redesign, staff will check on cost
B. Morrill Meadows Parcourse project signage
Commissioners reviewed, discussed, and offered feedback on the artist’s signage
proposal.
C. Creative Consultancies YES
Additional “opportunity” funding – Taskey made a motion to allocate an additional
$15,000 from the 2019 City Art Plan “Opportunity” line item to the Creative
Consultancies/downtown art plan project. O’Brien seconded and the motion carried
unanimously.

D. Traffic Signal Control Box Art Wraps
-2018 installation – All 8 boxes are installed and look great
-2019 Call to artists – Currently open; deadline is May 31

F. Summer Art Exhibit
-Reception: Wednesday, June 5, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
-Purchase Jury – Arts Commission representative will be Cam Kristenson
8. General updates/other business
A. SOCO Culture
-Meeting on 5/15
-Caravaglio distributed survey of topics for Sept. 19 Arts Commissioner summit
B. Kent School District/Arts Education
-Commissioners reviewed emails from students, parents, and teachers concerned
about cuts in the KSD music program.
-Unanimously agreed to clarify information and then send a letter to the Kent
School Board, ilovekent.com, and the Kent Reporter (as appropriate) in support of
maintaining music education in schools. Caravaglio will compose a draft with input
from Commissioners, staff will make efforts to obtain more information from the
district.
C. Give Me Culture grant application YES
Taskey made a motion to fully fund ($300) the Kent Black Action Commission’s
application for a creativity table/art projects at the 2019 Juneteenth celebration on
June 22. DuBois seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
9. Next Meeting – Wednesday, June 5, 6:00 p.m., Centennial Center first floor
conference rooms (to coincide with Summer Art Exhibit opening, in lieu of regular,
June 11 meeting.)
