BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Board Secretary, Lynell Mooney; Board members:
Karen Chandler, Aaron Dent, Mel Roberts, Andrew Sobczyk.
CITY STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT: Dan Hansen.
1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 5:49 PM, with Lynell Mooney (in board president
and vice president absent) presiding.
2. Roll Call
Wendy Graves and Cheryl Koubik were absent.
3. Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the April 29, 2019 meeting were reviewed. Mel Roberts moved to
accept the minutes as written and Aaron Dent seconded the motion. The minutes
were approved by the board with one correction.
4. City of Kent General Updates
Fill Open Board Positions
Applicants are still being considered and must interview with the mayor.
Dan Hansen resignation
Dan announced that he will be resigning and taking a new traffic engineer position with
the City of Tacoma. Rob Brown and April Deschamps will be attending meetings
representing the City of Kent.
228th Project Interurban Closure
More information in June about intermittent open/closings of the trail.
224th Bridge Project
No construction updates at the time of this meeting.
Kent’s Downey Farmstead Project
Frager Road will be closing June 7. The Hwy 516 pedestrian bridge will remain open
and signs will be placed of the closure at the Ole’ Fishin’ Hole.
Willis Street Trail

City of Kent Parks taking the lead on this new trail upgrade on the north and south sides
of Willis. There will be a presentation in June.
Traffic Calming Program
Residential calming program to report and mitigate speeding in neighborhoods and
traffic volumes in pedestrian and non-motorized areas. City of Kent reviews the reports
and recommends possible solutions for the neighborhood.
5. Puget Sound Regional Council Update
Mel Roberts reported about Washington State Transit update. Receipt of possible
federal funds for non-motorized upgrades.
6. Build Bicycling Interest in Kent
Ideas…
1. Pilot program similar to the Redmond Program
2. Make current trails/bicycle facilities more visible using permanent and
temporary signage and markings
3. Create an on-going bicycle program for different seasonal events
4. Invest in bicycle facilities
5. Vacate a street for bicycle event
6. Close golf course for one-day bicycle events using golf cart trails
7. Create a long-lived standard for bicycle facilities
7. Adjournment
At 7:00 PM, meeting was declared adjourned.
