Agenda: 1. Call to Order Mizan Rahman 6:35 p.m. 2. Roll Call Ta Kwe Say, Norma Maldonado, Davies Chirwa, Ted Schwarz, Taffy Johnson. were absent. 3. Changes to the agenda None 4. Increasing Involvement with all communities Melanie Taylor from Puget Sound Fire led the conversation about fire safety and awareness for hard to reach communities. She explained that Chief Morris is currently developing a 5 year strategic plan and they want to focus on historically hard to reach communities. They have identified what populations in our community are most vulnerable and that would be children and the elderly. Carbon monoxide poisoning is also another big concern in our community, especially with newly arrived refugees and immigrant communities. Puget Sound Fire also understands that language is a barrier for many in our community. They want to create a citizens academy for all communities to become knowledgeable about fire hazards and safety. Some suggestions from the board included;  Having written materials in other languages  Bringing this type of information to local schools Kent Cultural Communities Board Meeting July 23, 2019 Minutes Kent, Washington  Co-leading trainings with community leaders, especially if language is a barrier  Working with Community Based Organizations  Working with local Churches The board mentioned that they want to put together a resource list composed of local community based organizations and groups. 5.
