Meeting called to order at 6:33 p.m.
Conversation with Parks Department:
Brian Levenhagen and the folks from Pro Consulting thanked the board members for their time and
explained the purpose of the questions that were going to be asked. The goal for the meeting was to
get various perspectives on the City’s Parks department, their services, strengths and weaknesses.
The first question asked was, “What does the Parks department need to strengthen the system?
What’s missing?
Board members went around speaking on what they believed the Park’s department needed to
improve services.
o One board member mentioned that the department needed more scholarships because
some immigrant families may have to choose what child can participate in their sports
league.
o Another board member mentioned that they’ve had very positive experiences with parks
staff. The board member spoke specifically about having picnics and receiving excellent
service. More covered picnic areas was mentioned as a need.
o Board members generally agreed that more soccer fields were needed for the growing
population of soccer players in this city. One board member explained that children over the
age of 13 needed more options when it came to sports leagues.
