1. Call to order
The meeting was called to order by the Chair at 6:31pm.
2. Roll call
No roll call was taken since zoom shares the participants.
3. Equity and Inclusion
This conversation had to do with the current national movement to bring light to
police violence against people of color. Chief Padilla wanted to share some of the
current policies in place to assure the community that they take incidents like what
happened to George Floyd very seriously.
Chief Padilla invited one of his training supervisors to share the different techniques
that the Police Department uses to subdue individuals if that is needed. The training
supervisor showed some training videos and described the differences between
Kent PD policy and what millions of Americans saw with the George Floyd Video.
The board members had further questions about the training, as well as the
cameras that each officer carries with them on the job.
Chief Padilla explained the camera policies, when the cameras are turned on, when
they are turned off, how the videos are uploaded at the end of their shifts. He also
talked about how officers are not able to tamper with their camera’s and the data
content.
