Arts Commission Minutes Commissioners: Chair Dan Cox, Vice Chair Suzanne Smith, Treasurer Gerard Philpotts, Secretary Susan Bagrationoff, Secretary Christy Caravaglio, Bayard DuBois, Tonya Goodwillie, Campbell Kristenson, Susan Machler, Linda Mackintosh, Colleen Maloney, Hal O’Brien, Michael Taskey, Sandi Westman, (Sherelle Owens, Alternate) (Brenda Fincher, City Council Liaison) September 9, 2020 5:30 p.m. Remote Meeting – Zoom Item Description 1. Call to order – Chair Dan Cox called the meeting to order at 5:33 p.m. 2. Roll Call – Excused: Bagrationoff, Goodwillie, O’Brien 3. Changes to the Agenda – None 4. August Minutes – Taskey made a motion to accept the minutes as written. Maloney seconded and the motion carried unanimously. 5. Treasurer’s Report – None available; August has not closed. 6. Performing Arts Committee A. Spotlight Series 2020-2021 – Staff continues to pursue options for virtual and/or streaming performances, while closely monitoring state regulations around live performance. 7. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee A. Public Art – Traffic Signal Control Boxes have been installed and feedback has been positive. Morrill Meadows Parcourse sculptures have been installed; surfacing and signage will be complete later in the month. B. Public Art – Entry banner replacement: Banners are on order. C. 2020-2024 City Art Plan – Rotating mural program/Kent Downtown Partnership: Smith made a motion to approve $34,500 of 2020 City Art opportunity fund money for two semi-permanent murals (rotate every two years) on downtown walls. Kent Downtown Partnership will serve as liaison with property owners. Mackintosh seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Commissioners discussed focusing on Washington-based artists and themes related to Kent in the call to artists. D. There was interest and staff will follow up with Susan. E. Kent Creates: -Quarantine Art exhibit – 29 entries so far, more coming in daily. 8. General updates/other business A. SOCO Culture – Report: Zoom meeting on racial equity next week. Dan Cox will forward details. B. Kent School District – Report: None 9.
