PRESENTATIONS A Support for Manufacturing and Roles of Shannon Matson 30 MIN. Appreticeship in Work Force Chris Pierson Development Lynn Strickland Chief Economic and Community Development Officer, Bill Ellis introduced Chris Pierson and Demetria "Lynn" Strickland from the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee (AJAC) who provided Council with a presentation on manufacturing and the roles of apprenticeships in work force development. Strickland discussed the mission of AJAC and the core programs that they offer here in Kent and beyond. Councilmember Boyce inquired about the impacts of COVID and AJAC's relationship with the Kent School District. Strickland noted that the all programs switched to online learning a year ago, and some of the hands-on jobs are rather difficult to maneuver and resulted in about a 30% drop in enrollment. Strickland also noted that the opportunity has not been there to facilitate a relationship with the Kent School District. B West Hill Reservoir Update Sean Bauer 15 MIN. Drew Holcomb Water Systems Manager, Sean Bauer and Public Works Engineer, Drew Holcomb provided Council with an update on the West Hill Reservoir project, that includes the construction of a 5-million-gallon reservoir to provide for City Council Workshop Workshop Regular March 2, 2021 Meeting Kent, Washington Minutes additional domestic and fire flow storage for West Hill residents and businesses. Bauer emphasized the need for this water tank. Holcomb noted the various mailers that have gone out to residents in the area and reviewed some frequently asked questions as well as provided contact information for anyone with further questions. C "What is the WDC?" Jason Petrait 30 MIN. Chief Economic and Development Officer, Bill Ellis introduced Jason Petrait who is the Director of Strategic Partnerships from the Workforce Development Council of Seattle King County. Petrait provided Council with details on the work of the Workforce Development Council of Seattle King County. He indicated that the council oversees the work source system, which are the job placement type offices scattered throughout the county. Petrait discussed how Ellis has helped facilitate industry engagement with information technology and manufacturing employers in the Kent Valley. He also discussed the future of service delivery and his desire to have a work source office located in Kent. Meeting ended at 5:55 p.m. Kimberley A.
