Arts Commission Minutes
Commissioners: Chair (vacant), Vice Chair Dan Cox, Treasurer Gerard Philpotts,

1. Call to order - Meeting called to order at 5:32 p.m.
2. Roll Call - Excused: Treese, Westman, Dubois
3. Welcome new Commissioners: Jen, Bryan, Countess,
Kerry, Ryan
4. Guest: Scott Trimble, Artist, Chestnut Ridge
5. Changes to the Agenda - None
6. November Minutes - Taskey made a motion to approve the minutes as written.
Stekovic seconded at the motion carried unanimously.
7. Treasurer's Report - Distributed for review.
8. Performing Arts Committee
A. Spotlight Series 2021-2022
-Magical Strings - Sold out show with 357 in attendance. Vaccination check
went smoothly.
B. Spotlight Series 2022-2023 - Tours are slowly beginning to take shape.
9. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee
A. Public Art Updates:
-Chestnut Ridge - Artist Scott Trimble shared his proposal for artwork at Chestnut
Ridge Park. Commissioners asked questions regarding materials, maintenance, and
safety. Caravaglio made a motion to approve the artwork concept. Kristenson
seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
B. Gallery
Unless otherwise noted, the Arts Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. the 2nd Wednesday of each
month at City Hall, Council Chambers, 220 4th Avenue South, Kent, WA 98032.

-"Free to Roam" - Exhibit closed, voting underway.
-"December Delights" - December "bonus" exhibit (deadline 12/31)
-Next exhibit - "Inspired by Greatness"
10. General updates/other business
A. Election of 2022 Officers
Chair: Dan Cox, Vice Chair: Michael Taskey, Treasurer: Gerard Philpotts
Caravaglio made a motion to approve the slate of officers. Stekovic seconded
and the motion carried unanimously (with Cox, Taskey, and Philpotts
abstaining.)
B. 2022 Committee Assignments
-Performing: Cox, Dubois, French, Howell, O'Brien, Taskey, Westman
-Visual: Philpotts, Caravaglio, Kristenson, Maloney, Ohno, Stekovic, Treese,
Olmsted
C. SOCO Culture - Report: Membership meeting will take place in January. Cox
reported that another special meeting for Arts Commissioners is being planned
for 2022.
D. Philpotts brought up a revenue generating idea - renting artworks. Commission
briefly discussed potential logistical and legal issues.
11. Next Meeting - Wed., January 12, 2022, 5:30 p.m., City Hall Council Chambers
(with Zoom option)
12. Adjourn for Holiday Party - Meeting adjourned at 6:37 p.m.
