Arts Commission Minutes
Commissioners: Chair (vacant), Vice Chair Dan Cox, Treasurer Gerard Philpotts,

Item Description
1. Call to order - Vice Chair Cox called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m.
2. Roll Call - Excused: Caravaglio, Taskey
3. Guests: Incoming Commissioners Bryan Ohno, Countess Stekovic, Ryan Olmsted
4. Changes to the Agenda - None
5. October Minutes - DuBois made a motion to approve the October minutes as
written. Kristenson seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
6. Treasurer's Report- Distributed for review.
7. Performing Arts Committee
A. Spotlight Series 2021-2022
- Luca Stricagnoli - 120 people (sold-out with socially distanced seating)
attended the concert on October 22.
-Magical Strings - Sunday, December 5. As of 11/10, 142 tickets sold.

-Impact of King County mandate taking effect 10/25 - We will begin checking
for proof of vaccination or negative COVID test result within 72 hours of the
performance for people 12 and over.
B. Spotlight Series 2022-2023 - Staff distributed ideas to Performing Arts
Committee members who have provided feedback.
8. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee
A. Public Art Updates:
-Chestnut Ridge Renovation - Artist Scott Trimble plans to present his proposal
at the December 8 Arts Commission meeting.
Unless otherwise noted, the Arts Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. the 2nd Wednesday of each
month at City Hall, Council Chambers, 220 4t" Avenue South, Kent, WA 98032.

9. General updates/other business
A. Community Arts Support Program
-2022 Panel recommendations - Westman made a motion to approve the panel
recommendations totaling $$8,250. O'Brien seconded and the motion carried
unanimously.
B. Give Me Cultural grant application: Evergreen City Ballet - O'Brien made a
motion to approve full funding ($1,000). Maloney seconded and the motion carried
unanimously.
C. Nominations for 2022 Officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer)
D. Commissioner vacancies/appointments - Christy Caravaglio and Hal O'Brien will
be appointed to second terms at the November 16 City Council Meeting. New
Commissioners Jen Treese, Countess Stekovic, Bryan Ohno, and Kerry French will
also be appointed, along with Alternate Commission Ryan Olmsted.
E. SOCO Culture - General membership meeting on 11/10 focused on relationship
building and fundraising.
10. Next Meeting - Wed., December 8, 2021, Remote Meeting (TBD)
