Call to order - Chair Smith called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m. 2. Roll Call - Excused: DuBois, Cox, Maloney/Absent: Philpotts, Machler, Taskey 3. Guests: Traffic Signal Control Box Art Proposals from artists Brooke Borcherding, Naoko Morisawa, and Linda McClamrock 4. Changes to the Agenda: Addition of item 8.D. Earthworks bike tour 5. May Minutes - O'Brien made a motion to accept the minutes as written. Owens seconded. No quorum present - no vote. Approval of May minutes moved to July 14 meeting. 6. Treasurer's Report - Distributed for review. 7. Performing Arts Committee A. Spotlight Series 2021-2022 - Sponsor confirmations, Mariachi Herencia de Mexico date shift from October to February, working on 21-22 season brochure. B. Summer Concert Series 2021 - Begins July 7, waiting on governor's announcement regarding June 30 reopening to make final decisions on procedures. 8. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee A. Public Art Updates: -Downtown rotating mural project: Installation projected for late June or early July. Commissioners prefer a midday dedication ceremony to be scheduled. -Traffic Signal Control Box project: Westman made a motion to approve proposals from Brooke Borcherding, Naoko Morisawa, and Linda McClamrock. Caravaglio seconded. No quorum present - action item moved to July 14 meeting. Unless otherwise noted, the Arts Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. the 2nd Wednesday of each month at Centennial Center, Conference Room 402, 400 West Gowe St., Kent, WA 98032. Gallery -Stephanie Johnson/Sara Brogdon: July/August C. Kent Creates: -Hope Blooms (deadline: June 30), next exhibit theme (Free to Roam) D. Earthworks Bike Tour - Discussed deaccessioning the Earthworks bike tour and signage poles. Many are damaged across multiple jurisdictions. Caravaglio made a motion to deaccession. Westman seconded. No quorum present - action item moved to July 14 meeting. 9. General updates/other business A. SOCO Culture - No updates B. Kent School District - No updates C. General items - Caravaglio shared information about art education lessons produced by Auburn Symphony, available online. Reminder that the deadline for SoundTransit public participation opportunity for Kent Des Moines station has been extended to June 30. 10. Next Meeting - Wed., July 14, 2021, 5:30, Zoom 11.
