Call to order - Chair Smith called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. 2. Roll Call - Excused absences for O'Brien, Kristenson, and Mackintosh 3. Changes to the Agenda - None 4. Guest: Mayor Dana Ralph - Mayor Ralph thanked Commissioners for their continued service through the pandemic and made herself available for questions. 5. February Minutes - Cox made a motion to approve the minutes as written. Caravaglio seconded and the motion carried unanimously. 6. Treasurer's Report - Distributed by staff for review. 7. Performing Arts Committee A. Spotlight Series 2020-2021 -Jon Cleary/Ivan Neville Livestream - 2 tickets sold -We Banjo 3 Livestream - 3/13, no sales to date -A.J. Croce Livestream Series - 3/18 and 3/25, 10 sales to date B. Spotlight Series 2021-2022 - Schedule is mostly confirmed as rescheduled dates from 2020-2021 C. Summer Concert Series 2021 - Schedule is set, staff is waiting for additional COVID guidelines, but hopeful that an outdoor series will be possible this year. 8. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee A. Public Art Updates: -Downtown rotating mural project - Artists Ian Shearer and Nick Goettling are under contract to create artwork and will present their proposals on April 14. -Traffic Signal Control Box project - Call to artists is open; deadline is April 16. Unless otherwise noted, the Arts Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. the 2nd Wednesday of each month at Centennial Center, Conference Room 402, 400 West Gowe St., Kent, WA 98032. For TDD relay service call Washington Telecommunications Relay Service at 7-1-1. -Chestnut Ridge Renovation - Discussed direct-selection of artist W. Scott Trimble, based on the suitability of his work to the location. Staff will contact Mr. Trimble to explore options. B. Gallery -Still closed C. Kent Creates: -2021 - Looking Forward exhibit (March 31 deadline), next exhibit "Hope Blooms" (April 1 - June 30) -April - Virtual Kent Student Art Exhibit D. Industrial Building Development/Mural - Discussed potential mural project on a large industrial building development at 212t" Street and Green River. The Commission agreed that this project is a fit for our Kent Valley Loop Trail budget. Staff will work with Planning Services staff to pursue. 9. General updates/other business A. Give Me Culture Application -Kent Downtown Partnership - Open Air Music & Art Taskey made a motion to fund the proposal at the full amount of $1,000. Philpotts seconded and the motion carried unanimously. B. SOCO Culture - Next meeting planned for May. C. Kent School District - No report 10. Next Meeting - Wed., April 14, 2021, 5:30, Zoom 11.
