Call to order - The meeting was called to order at 5:32 p.m. 2. Roll Call - All present 3. Changes to the Agenda - Items 7E, 7F, 8D, 8E 4. January Minutes - Caravaglio made a motion to approve the minutes as written, DuBois seconded and the motion carried unanimously. 5. Treasurer's Report - December month-end reports were distributed via email. 6. Performing Arts Committee A. Spotlight Series 2020-2021 -Jon Cleary/Ivan Neville Livestream - 2/16 -We Banjo 3 Livestream - 3/13 -A.J. Croce Livestream Series - 3/18 and 3/25 B. Spotlight Series 2021-2022 - Most 20-21 artist have confirmed for 21-22 dates. C. Summer Concert Series 2021 - Most of 2020 artists have confirmed rescheduled dates for 2021. Staff is hopeful that we will be able to do outdoor programming. 7. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee A. Public Art Updates: -Downtown rotating mural project - Artists selection jury selected 6 finalists from a pool of 54 applicants. The jury meets Friday, February 12 to select the final two artists. B. Gallery - Closed C. Kent Creates: -2021 - Looking Forward exhibit (March 31 deadline) -April - Virtual Kent Student Art Exhibit Unless otherwise noted, the Arts Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. the 2nd Wednesday of each month at Centennial Center, Conference Room 402, 400 West Gowe St., Kent, WA 98032. For TDD relay service call Washington Telecommunications Relay Service at 7-1-1. -Potential project in partnership with City Communications Department to conduct a community mask design contest. D. 2021-2025 City Art Plan -O'Brien made a motion to approve the plan as presented. Kristenson seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The Art Plan will proceed to the City Council Committee of the Whole on February 23. E. Traffic Signal Control Box Art Replacement -Boxes at 240t" Ave. SE and 104t" St. (artist Jean Bradbury) and Willis St. and Hwy. 167 northbound on-ramp (artist Jill Erickson) are scheduled for replacement in the coming months. Since both artworks are only three years old and still looking good, the Commission advises replacing with the same artwork when new boxes are installed at the locations. F. Public Art Maintenance - "Another Place, Another Time" -Staff has worked with artist Stuart Nakamura to identify a concrete restoration specialist to conduct necessary maintenance to this artwork at the Kent Historical Museum. O'Brien made a motion to approve spending City Art maintenance funding to conduct the repairs. Smith amended the motion to include a not-to-exceed limit of $10,000. Bagrationoff seconded and the motion carried unanimously. 8. General updates/other business A. Give Me Culture Application: Kent Music4Life - Cox made a motion to fully fund the grant application at $1,000. Taskey seconded and the motion carried unanimously, with Mackintosh abstaining since she serves on the board of the organization. B. SOCO Culture - Cox reported that the organization is in the process of switching banks to ensure a South King County banking location. C. Kent School District - None. D. Commissioner Highlight - The Parks Department is launching a project to feature Commissioner profiles (from Arts, Parks, and Human Services Commissions) on social media. The Arts Commission is supportive. E. Arts Advocacy - Annual arts advocacy efforts will be virtual this year, taking place over the next two weeks in February. Caravaglio is Team Captain for the 48t" District. SOCO Director Barbara McMichael is Team Captain for the 33ra 9. Next Meeting - Wed., March 10, 2021, 5:30, Zoom 10.
