Arts Commission Minutes
Commissioners: Chair Suzanne Smith, Vice Chair Dan Cox, Treasurer Gerard Philpotts,

Item Description
1. Call to order - The meeting was called to order by Chair Smith at 5:32 p.m.
2. Roll Call - Excused: Michael Taskey, Bayard DuBois, Absent: Susan Machler
3. Changes to the Agenda - None
4. December Minutes - Bagrationoff made a motion to approve the minutes as
written. O'Brien seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
5. Treasurer's Report - December month-end reports not yet available.
6. Performing Arts Committee
A. Spotlight Series 2020-2021
-All live shows are canceled; staff is rescheduling to 21-22
-Blind Boys of Alabama Livestream - 12/23: 28 tickets sold through our ticket link
B. Spotlight Series 2021-2022 - Rescheduling 20-21 shows to 21-22
C. Summer Concert Series 2021 - Staff is rescheduling 2020 canceled shows to
2021 dates in hopes that some form of summer concerts will be possible.
7. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee
A. Public Art Updates:
-Downtown rotating mural project - Call to artists closed with 61 applicants.
Staff will receive training on CaFE system jury process later this month.
B. Gallery
-Enid Smith Becker and Susanne Kelly - Jan/Feb (Canceled)
C. Kent Creates:
-2020 - Silver Linings exhibit: 31 submissions, 5 winners selected
-2021 - Looking Forward exhibit: Now open through April 30
Unless otherwise noted, the Arts Commission meets at 5:30 p.m. the 2nd Wednesday of each
month at Centennial Center, Conference Room 402, 400 West Gowe St., Kent, WA 98032.

D. 2021-2025 City Art Plan - Staff will create a draft to share with the Visual Arts
Committee prior to the Commission's February meeting.
E. Summer Art Exhibit 2021 - Mackintosh made a motion to reschedule canceled
2020 gallery exhibits over the summer (IF the gallery can be opened) in lieu of a
2021 Summer Art Exhibit. Caravaglio seconded and the motion carried
unanimously.
8. General updates/other business
A. 2021 Committee Assignments - Committee assignments will carry over from
2020 (Visual: Bagrationoff, Caravaglio, Kristensen, Machler, Maloney, Philpotts,
Smith. Performing: DuBois, Cox, Goodwillie, Mackintosh, O'Brien, Owens, Taskey,
Westman.)
B. SOCO Culture - January 13 meeting featured using technology to sustain the
arts through COVID and into the future.
C. Kent School District - No report
D. Good of the order - Bagrationoff shared that she will be working with Kent
Community Partners to paint their "pop-up little pantries."
