Arts Commission Minutes Commissioners: Chair Dan Cox, Vice Chair Michael Taskey, Treasurer Gerard Philpotts, Christy Caravaglio, Bayard DuBois, Kerry French, Robert Howell, Campbell Kristenson, Colleen Maloney, Hal O’Brien, Bryan Ohno, Countess Stekovic, Jen Treese, Sandi Westman, (Alternate: Ryan Olmsted) (Brenda Fincher, City Council Liaison) January 12, 2022 5:30 p.m. Remote Meeting – Zoom 1. Call to order: Chair Dan Cox called the meeting to order at 5:33 p.m. 2. Roll Call: Excused – French, Howell, O’Brien, Philpotts 3. Changes to the Agenda: Item 8.C. Adopt new bylaws 4. December Minutes: Taskey made a motion to approve the minutes as written. DuBois seconded and the motion carried unanimously. 5. Treasurer’s Report: Distributed for review. 6. Performing Arts Committee A. Spotlight Series 2021-2022 -International Guitar Night – Friday, January 21, 172 tickets sold, Taskey and DuBois to serve as ushers. 53 tickets sold for Mariachi Herencia de Mexico 2/5; 173 tickets sold for Live from Laurel Canyon 2/12; 219 tickets sold for The Drifters 2/25). B. 2022-2023 Booking – Updates for Summer Concert Series and Spotlight Series sent to Performing Arts Committee. 7. Visual Arts/Acquisitions Committee A. 2022-2026 City Art Plan: Caravaglio made a motion to approve the 2022-2026 City Art Plan as presented by the Visual Arts Committee. Taskey seconded and the motion carried unanimously. B. Gallery: James Borchers & Mycah Higley: January/February C. Kent Creates: December Delights Exhibit had three winners, including Jill Erickson, Erica Peto, and Renee Hazen. Inspired by Greatness is the current exhibit, accepting submissions through March 31. 8. Kent Arts Commission Funding Overview: Staff shared a brief presentation on the basics of Arts Commission funding, including where funding comes from, categories of expenditures, and sources of income. B. SOCO Culture: Meeting on Wed., Jan. 19, 10 a.m. C. Bylaws – Taskey made a motion to adopt the new bylaws. Stekovic seconded and the motion carried unanimously. 9.
