Agenda:
1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 2:40 p.m.
2. Roll Call
Four Commissioners are absent.
3. Changes to the Agenda
None
4. Approval of Minutes, dated June 15, 2017
There were not enough attending Commissioners to reach a quorum so the pending
minutes from February 16, 2017, April 20, 2017, May 18, 2017 and June 15, 2017
were not approved.
5. Veterans, Senior and Human Services Levy (Mike Heinisch)
Preliminary polls indicate a 52% positive response to the levy. The levy, being
divided into equal thirds, will designate the first 9 million of the senior portion
specifically to senior veterans. Seniors will be rebated for the income tax increase

and are being encouraged to apply for the senior tax exemption through the
county.
6. Presentation – Kent Home Repair (Darrel Hammack/Brittany Levens)
Home Repair staff presented an overview of the history and successes of the Home
Repair Program in Kent. PowerPoint attached.
7. Youth Initiative - Update (Willie Seals/Lori Guilfoyle)
Staff are making connections and building better relationships with the Kent school
district. A community meeting is being held Monday September 25th at the Kent
Parks Community Center from 5:30pm-7:00pm to discuss the goals of the Kent
Youth Initiative and how they can meet the needs of our community.
8. 2018 Application Cycle – Merina
Application cycle is set to open early march 2018 and close April 2018.
9. Updates
• Human Services Master Plan to be updated next year. A results based
accountability model will be used in structuring the plan. (Lori Guilfoyle)
• The Good Jobs Group was awarded a 50k Boeing grant. Participants in the
project include: Mother Africa, Jewish Family Services, St. Vincent DePaul
and Center for Advanced Manufacturing. (Dinah)
• Puget Sound Sage is coming to Kent (Dinah)
• KYFS has a new board member and has increased its board diversity to 47%
